So since the HID guys don't really seem to have a home why don't we start one where we can hang out and discuss the lights and equipment we use to grow our medicine.

I am currently running (2) Eye Hortilux 1K Platinum Ballast with the Hortilux Enhanced HPS bulbs in Daystar A/C hoods. On Monday when the third hood arrives I will put my 600 watt Blue MH back in the veg tent where the COB light was.

So who else is running HID's and what are you growing under them?

I'm not going to get on your shit, but out of curiosity, why did you return them, and what was your setup?

Divorce amongst other reasons. Didn't return my lights they were three DIY which I sold. Just personal preference. The COB do work but to me I just prefer the more natural way the plants come out under the HPS. Plus the COBs put more $$ in my pocket now than the HID would. My next led project will be with quantum boards when I get settled in the new place next year

I chatted briefly with @Stephenj37826 and when I get the next round settled in I will run one of my HPS against the retro fit kit for the A/C hoods and we will see what's up. I am kind of excited about that especially if I can mix spectrum. To me CMH is where it's at right now but there's no point in me switching my HPS setup for it, I have good gear.
 
I disagree on the "Indoor Growing" section being "for" hid lighting anymore
There should be a spot just for discussing the lighting and not lumped in with everything else that goes with growing under lights.
But, we saw where starting a new subforum went with some of the fella's here wanting to do what ever that was a while back

This was my confusion since there is basically a subforum for every other "type" of light, and the indoor is a mix of everything including LED threads. So I thought LED and "other" lighting that it should go here. But my apologies to anyone I tagged a mod and will wait for it to be moved.

My veg room is 13'x7' not all of it is used for veg but it has 3 600 watt mh eye hortilux and the flower room is 13'x16' with 4 1000 watt eye hortilux on light rails with dominator xxxl hoods. It will all be coming down soon and the leds are going up.

Guys I started a thread on this in the grow journals and it barely got any traffic. I took it down. I then decided with all the bickering going on it was pointless to share, as all this shows is how these types of lights work in my garden and environment with my strains. There is no control and the same open 5x9 was used with one light on each half. I had no divider. Too many things people would bitch about. I got to see what I wanted and the results are what I expected after having compared CMH to COB in the past and favoring the CMH. My opinion is of the less popular and the thread would just end up leading to fighting and people trying to convince me how I am wrong based on data sheets and not plants.

I do not hate COB's, I have used pre built and DIY COB's. I just "prefer" the way HPS/MH/CMH grows my plants. I don't give three shits about better efficiency when the garden is not to my liking. I took down 650 watts of COB and added a second A/C 1K hps and my temps went down significantly and the plants are looking better fuller and more natural. And I definitely have a lot more light. What I can say is you need more than this amount of watts in my opinion to light half this space and get proper penetration to the lower canopy (with COB). I do not SCROG, not what I like so my light needs to reach. I will play with the quantum boards in the future after this run and getting settled in the new place.

I will just leave it at that. There are some out here trying to paint me for a troll because I have a non popular opinion based on growing with the technologies being discussed. To me COB is not bad, it has it's uses and benefits, I think more so in smaller grows (for now). It just is a fast evolving technology right now and I will sit back and let it get better. Cost is a factor for me when I consider all of these technologies too.

My 5x9 also ran much hotter with just the LED side in it, vs the 1K HPS only. I did test that as well.

This is my preference after growing with HPS/COB/CMH/T5. for veg I prefer in this order:
1) Blue MH
2) CMH
3) T5 (6500K GE Bulbs)
4) 5K COB

For Flower
1) Enhanced HPS
2) CMH
3) Blue MH
4) COB
5) T5

I flower autos all the time in my veg tent so my veg light needs to have a kick.
