I am running 11 cobs. 2 tents, 1 2x2.5 and 1 at 3x3. 7 plants.
All Cree 3590 at around 50 watts each.
I have spoken with my $$.

1st rule of growing: Tell no one.

I would think especially the law...
But, I am also old school.

Ah. Yeah, but I don't wanna get into to wiring/messing with fixtures/etc., man. This is an old house with fickle wiring, no need to create a potential situation, eh?
Surely there are simple 'over-the-counter' lamps that would allow me to produce an ounce or two per month, aye?

Speaking of, I'm nearing the end of my FINAL seed trials! Got some smooth black shiny ones that I'm popping next!
(I'd planned to go full steam ahead a couple weekends ago, but I want to make sure that every possible kink is worked out before potentially squandering my time/$$$.)

What about a Tasty fixture, bro? Maybe $50 of a markup compared to what you'd pay to make one with a single emitter and driver. It would be way easier on your wiring than HID.

I use two of their T1-2100 fixtures. They just replaced that with a T1-v196 which uses a Vero29C with 1650mA driver and slightly higher PPF, PPFD, and PAR watts.
Ohhhh, I see. (Not really, I've got no clue about the electrical stuff/abbreviations.)

What about these, though, for just one simple plant?

Maybe. I just think you'd have better returns using less energy using a COB, despite the higher price tag, but if you want to make that work, let me know how it goes. I would NOT recommend the bottom option. If you really want help with fluorescents, talk to @RM3. That man's a damned genius.

Not being argumentative but just inquisitive......u think led are comparable with double ended? For comparative purposes, I have heard of people getting 3.25-3.5 per with DE. Is Led anywhere near that?
if it were me and i had high ceilings, i'd take 1150w of DE over COB anyday of the week. sure COBs are good and very efficient but IMO DE buds are gonna be bigger and more solid way farther down the plant than a cob. in a scrog, i'd take a cob. but for 3 to 4 ft'ers, DE for ME.

i'm going with a 315 lec and and a solarstorm 400 in a 3x4 now. so i don't have skin in either cob or de.

HPS and MH--all HID--are decades-old technology that present hazards as well as are horribly energy consuming and inefficient. You waste 1000w on what you could get from ~300w of COB in a slightly smaller area. HIDs work, sure, but they are definitely on their way out. This shit is just the beginning.
Yea but what are the gardeners supposed to do about the quality of buds we are used to with hps? Wonder if california will be like that even though prop 64 probably is not going to pass?

exactly!

once you pass the "fire inspection" process, then in a few months, next up comes "the compliance check"

total invasion of privacy IMO. and just more info to be used at a later date. against us, the private growers.

and great point about still illegal on a Federal level. if the DEA gets a hair up their ass, they start the crack-down. those on the "lists" are easy to find and will be first to busted.
I'm an MMJ patient who grows his own medicine and this is why I supported question 2 (recreational use) in nevada. it will allow me to grow my own medicine without going on record. I can give up my MMJ card and regain my 5th and 2nd amendment rights as well as my right to privacy.I have never grown with HIDs. I use T5s so would not be affected if this law came to my state.MMJ patients are harassed in every state. total legalization with no permits or registration is the only answer.

people are getting high quality buds without HIDs. the HPS crowd would just have to learn new ways to grow. with the lights that are allowed
