okay i have a 150w hps ballast, the brand is philips advance

im not sure if anyone is familiar with them but i wired it up and it gets fucking hot!
so hot i cant even touch it, i brned my hand today.
its isolated in a 6x6 junction box to keep the hum low, even though there isnt aloud hum

im just wondering is it normal to get this hot? and should i just aim a fan at it?

OR

am i gonna come home and find my place on fire one day

thank you

Double check your wiring with the diagrams you got with it and make sure you are using appropriate gauge wires. Long as your connections are secure and it's wired correctly I'd say you're probably okay. You could put the junction box on top of a brick or something to try and keep the heat off the floor. You could put a small fan blowing on it to dissipate heat better, can't hurt. I've got a sunsystem 150 complete set up and I can hold the outside of the ballast casing while it's on and it feels just a bit warm. Check with some people in the DIY section just to be safe.

ballasts actually contribute a pretty good amount of the heat an hps system puts out. People say the humming is normal, mine is silent so i couldnt say for sure but it most likely is in your case. Check over the wiring one more time just to be safe though.
