HOWTO - Disguising vents in a window - With pictures

Hi,

When i constructed my grow room i made some pictures of the proceedings. The next pictures show how i installed my 1500m2 air inlet to my window. It's always a challenge because no light can escape or enter the grow room, no vents can be shown but you have to open the window. In this case I used insect screens for both disguise and to make sure no unwanted elements are sucked into my grow room.

2. Open the window a few inches and fasten it to the window frame with some screws

3. Saw a piece of hardboard the same size as the window frame and connect the flange

4. Paint the board black and attach the insect screen with a tacker (folded twice)

5. Once the hose is connected to the flange and no light shines through, you can't see the hole. I put a garbage bag behind the hole on this picture

6. Screw the board onto the frame

7. Mount it to your fan

8. And no light will shine through the window and you can suck fresh air into your grow room without anybody seeing anything.

I put some double sided stickers on the window to make ik look like a child's room. You can also put some window film on your window. Or put a light on a timer between the window and the board. This is just one way of doing it and all windows are different. Has anybody else got some tips?

Nice , i have something similar, did you consider the possibility of what would happen in the event of a fan failure, maybe i am just extra paranoid
but i like to consider all possibilities ,

i have a window very near to my grow, for these reasons i decided to use another window much further away i was worried that smell would leak out of the window through the ducting if the fan failed , i set it up and turned the fan off, the smell was leaking out pretty bad

i found a useful little shutter/airtrap thing on an old cooker extractor hood, its basically just a little plastic circle on a hinge that only opens one way
or allows the flap to open when air travels in , it automatically springs open when the fan is on and closes when its off

peace

i pretty much did the same thing except i used plywood particle board doesnt do well outside.and i used a shutter on the outside of the hole but im exhausting. painted it all black crack the window put the screen up and whala you cant see anything make sure you use pleanty of sealent or light can get into the room...

I've been trying to think up a way to vent outside of my window... Any ideas on how to get away with this without causing too much suspicion if you're on the 1st floor of an apartment building and using normal double pane windows? What about bad weather/rain and sound?

ive read alot of people use an air conditioning housing. they hollow out a window ac unit. u could probably get an old ac on craigslist for cheap.

I can have the wood cut to size at my hardware store, but I'll have to cut the hole in the middle myself. I do not have any tools, but what's the best and cheapest way to go about cutting a 6 inch circle in the middle of the board?

if you want a real "nice hole" then you'll need a circle cutter attachment for a drill. they're at home depot and harbour freight for like 40 bucks.
if thats to much for a part that you'll prob only use once or a perfect hole doesn't matter than a simple jigsaw/drill will do the trick.
drill a hole on the perimeter of a 6" hole you drew, then cut around with the jigsaw.

Lol i may sound crazy but it worked for me. I took the flange or fitting and sat it on the wood drew a ciecle around it.got my drill used the biggest bit i had and drilled close nit holes around the traced circle grabbed my hammer and gave it a few smacks and i had my hole.u wont get a perfect circle but it got the job done. Hope this helps.
