How will the legalization of pot affect usage rates among kids in CO and WA?

do you think it will go up or down or remain stable? Supporters of I-502 and Amendment 64 promised to all the soccer moms that legalizing marijuana will help prevent kids from getting access to marijuana cause it will be heavily regulated and only sold to adults over 21. They said under prohibition theres drug dealers that dont check id and a legitimate business checks id. They said its easier for kids to get marijuana than alcohol.

On the other hand the opposition said twice as many kids drink alcohol than smoke marijuana because its legal, cheap and widely available. They said legalizing marijuana will hurt kids. They said usage rates among kids will skyrocket. They said if its legal there will be a black market just for selling to kids. They said if its legal theres no deterrent and a lot of kids are going to start smoking pot simply because its legalized.

Whos right? And if use among kids for marijuana does skyrocket, is that going to be used as an excuse to take it away from law abiding adults??????? Is that going to stop other states from legalizing it regardless of the jobs and tax revenue it creates?

Of course, the States are the actual melting pots for everything. And any facts will spun to death. One side is already saying that and the ink is not dry. If this movement can't walk the walk, in the Lobby fields of Congress, they will be walked upon by the sad Fact of corrupted youth. Thus it is ever so. It's how it was banned in the first place and there is no good answer. Many kids have ADD from their environment. Pot does not help learn to read, write and cypher.

I see this as too much too soon to call it legal, but it is how we test the Fed. WE control our world. WE are not marching to have Federal Troops in CO and WA, for breaking Federal Law, like we did for in the South for the civil rights. So far so good. Wait and see.

You make an important point, I think.
 
The Children, The Children, we must never let them grow up. They must stay innocent little children dependent on us grown ups forever. Until they turn 18, then throw them to the wolves.

Its all for the children.

Don't worry about a parent's responsibilities or anything, blame it all on marijuana being legalized.

Parents role in life is to provide food and shelter for the children, everything else belongs to the state? Is that what we are trying to say here?

Oh the poor children!

I am sick of people worried about the children.
 
Actually these studies have been done in vivo already. Google for it. Essentially when prohibition of a substance ends use drops some.

Well, to worry about the adults is foolish. It can only be about childern and in-attentioned ys uh somethign disorder. :)

Ya feel me? All that sex madness and everything that many people still take serious, is debunked, but this remains.
What about the adults who will be dead soon?

It has never been about that, has it? I mean in the history of the world?

What has that got to do with ganja? The use is high because it is a good safe high. But, it is distracting from the main job of educating oneself when an unformed mush bag instead of a yet thinking brain.

I took LSD long before pot, and in college we never had much pot, just more LSD and mushrooms, dexidrine to study, study, study.
 
Marijuana Policy Project has some studies indicating usage generally goes down. This is a red herring argument used by prohibitionists though, whether usage goes up or down doesn't address the question of who owns the right to tell ANYBODY what they can or cannot consume.

prelim studies show drops in usage, in countries that are legal or just legalized, like portugal and a south American country that I forget and am to lazy to google

dont forget prohibition . . .drinking went up when illegal and down when not, its not a red hearing is proven over and over and over

also in wa no increase in MJ DUI'S . . . . . . . studies of mothers and families who use in Jamaica suggest that families that smoke pot produce more well adjusted youth who are statically do better in life . . .

figure it out folks POT is not a negative in any way, unless being responsible for your own actions is hard
 
OK, thanks for the pointers...especially the Jamaican angle. How do we cure hate and stigma in a Federation of States?

Remember it was CA that lead the way in. The Big 4, included FL, NY, TX.pushed it in place and set up the narcotic board, etc.

What has changed. Well, an awful lot, hasn't it?

And since I was was Left of even the counter culture, I enjoyed the idea that we can "stick it to the man" like we have done in the Medical States.

Now, however, a few States are juking the knife.

Since, we are in charge, we will have to see if the man will groan and roll over, not wake up, etc. Or will it be a backlash and the road forward, (they think) for the Pubs?
 
Well, I'm guessing that a lot of high school kids won't be able to sell pot to adults anymore since the adults will have better sources. Making something illegal and profitable is the easiest way to promote it.

So you're saying kids are getting stupider? The truth is, nothing is wrong with marijuana. But it hinders brain development for those under about 25 years old, depending on the person.

How marijuana works is by stimulating existing associations. This is why it makes you more creative. After age 25 most people's brain associative learning reaches its peak.

If you use marijuana before age 25, your full potential for associative learning is diminished.

So all you're doing is making your IQ potential go down with early marijuana use. Go ahead have your kids fuck over their mental faculties. It just means mine will have even more advantage to use yours as wage slaves.

I'm saying it is legal. there is no reason to lie about your usage. A lot of kids who take those surveys lie and say they dont smoke pot. Becuase they dont want to take the chance that the 'anonymous" drug usage survey really isn't anonymous.

Actual usage wont go up. But reported usage will.
 
The "save the children" was the argument for re criminalizing pot here in AK in 91. It was a bad argument then, and still is now.

Not once did I ever respond to a call for a youth overdosing on pot. Can't say the same for booze or any other drug.
