How well does a waterpipe/bong water actually clean the smoke?

yea i guess it is kinda like a double edge sword. Bigger deeper hits in replacement of small dirty hits. Ive seen the proof of filtration after a long night with some grungy ass bong water so it deff does something
 
Bongs aren't really made for cleaning marijuana smoke in my opinion, just smoother cooler hits.
And even though you pull harder on a bong, than you would say a pipe or a joint, you are still inhaling less frequently. As opposed to joints where you do not hit as hard but you toke more often. So in essence i feel as though they only "crap" bongs are missing is the paper or tobacco shell.
 
I don't use a bong but I remember reading something in a med pot forum about them being bad. I guess that's why they use vaporizers.

The water definitely filters out lots of particulate matter - it is visible in the water. Has to be better then smoking unfiltered
 
me thinks it filters some thc as well out of smoke from hit on water bong

all single hits differ i use four things joint, pipe, vap, and bong some softr on throat one cooler one stronger tastier but all do the job with a different aproach to it for each
 
The filtering effect is easily observed by all the tars collected on the chamber of the bong. Everything you see on the glass is tars that you are not inhaling into your lungs. The water does not collect any THC because of the smoke being drawn through the water, because thc is not water soluble.
 
even though thc is not water soluble, can't it attatch to other particles that stay in the water? either way, i say that any psychoactive stuff that gets filtered out is negated by the fact that you are taking deeper hits. i have observed that when smoking a joint the smoke seems to mostly be in my upper lungs, but with a bong it shoots to the bottom of my lungs, and if my science memory serves me, the bottom of the lungs is where most stuff enters the bloodstream.
 
not much at all...Next time you take a fat bong rip put a paper towel up to your mouth and blow all the smoke out through it, you'll see all the shit that went in your lungs. Vape is the cleanest way to smoke.

i have done this more than once. spooky shit. almost makes me reconsider the whole unfiltered thing. almost.
 
i remember several years ago i seen high times had a chart on this. it was somewhere around that water cleans about roughly 30% of carcinogens from smoke. a vaporizer was 99% but im sure you could debate this since a lot of them you can change the temp.
 
Not all bongs are created equal. Some have disc diffusers, some have tree-percs, others have inverted this or that. If your bong has a simple downstem into water, you're not getting that much filtration. There are several bongs out there that really do a great job of filtering; Sovereignty, Toro, SYN, luke wilson, etc. Get one of those styles if you want good filtration.

aside from all the retarded bickering... i doubt bongs filtration matters that much...most of what you see in the bong is ash that would have otherwise not made it in your lungs if it were in a pipe, or slight amount of resin that would have ended up in your bowl. even worse, big bong hits expose the farthest deepest capillaries and hairs in your lungs to harsh smoke in comparison to any other method but at the same time feel the smoothest making them very decieving. i would say a pipe would actually be better for you than big bong rips, but small bong rips would be best (but who does that?).

love vaporizers but i like to taste the actual flavor of my pot, not just the pure essence of thc
