Hi RIU'ers! I am setting up a room and i've been doing hour upon hours of research and i have come to understand most everything necessary, but one thin I am still confused on is how to wire up my lights.

I am going to use between 5-8 1kw HPS lights, I have a sentinel Light Controller that has 8 plugs and a timer plugs into it aswell. I have a dryer socket so i can run a 220 or 240 or something right? Im confused as to how I would run all these lights on one dryer outlet ( i know my lights go into the controller then into the dryer plug) But do I need a special breaker or fuse or something for the breaker box panel thingamajig? Someone told me run a 50amp fuse breaker or something and then I can run all the lights I want (up to 8 1k hps) and i wont risk blowing fuses or overloading stuff. How do i go about setting this up? Can someone please help me?

I will paypal $5 to the person that helps me and can tell me exactly what I need to know. (hopefully able to answer a few more Q's too) Thanks guys!!!!

hopefully this'll help...no money required.....the outlet is a 30amp240 dryer outti correct...as long as the light controller is set for that amprage(the 8 light controller might be 50amps with a different male plug) if it's set for 30amp 240 its plug an play....as far as the ballest's you'll need one's that are set to handle eathier 120/240...most can but come with stock 120 cords that you'll need to replace with the 240 cords per ballest.....the reason you can safley run 4lights off 1 30amp 240 is cause it's set with 2 lines per ballest...meaning the ballests pull the same amp's there just divided up between 2 lines insted of a single 120....240 is pro imo an is safest....i only know about plug an play systems...hopefully someone can chime an teach you about hardwiring which is proven the safest way as it's up to code....az

Thanks for the info man, im still a bit confused but you cleared a little up for me. Can anyone else help me?

As far as wiring up the ballast for 240 I can help since I just changed mine to 120.

First you need to make sure it can handle 240. Most can. To do this you can either look at the manual, find it online or simply open it up and look inside. There will be multiple wires that are crimped off not being used, these Are for different voltages. Find the one that says 240 or 220, whichever you are using and simply switch it out with the one that is currently being used, which should be 120. On mine the inside wire was white. Hope that helps and good luck.

all my ballasts (except one) have a 220 plug that fits into my sentinel light controller. I just want to know how to run them all off the light controller and that the light controller uses one power cord that i was told should goto a dryer plug

Oh well then all you need to do is add up all the amps the ballasts will need, which should be Around 5 amp per ballast. Then check the breaker of your house to make sure that that particular breaker can handle all the ballasts and plug and play. Most 220 are 30 amp so if you want to run all 8 you might need to use a different plug for some of them or just run 2 off 120.

the amps drawn from 120 1k ballest is a about 9.7 amps average...you can only run 1 1000water per 120 line....besides if everything is plug an play what are you confused about....also does the controller got a timer on it, if not you'll need to pick one up so you can put the system on'a timer....if you have all the equ. you could always email senti an ask them what they think....they have good customer support....az
