How to Make Rick Simpson Oil (RSO/Phoenix Tears): Small Batch Hash Oil at Home

Hi guys, I'm new to Rollitup, so here is a lil' about me: I'm a veteran medical cannabis user, damn good cook, (recent)vegan, science buff and amateur body builder. I recently decided to start making short, educational videos, about my true love in life: Cannabis. In this vid, I demonstrate how to turn some low grade buds into potent Rick Simpson Oil(RSO/Pheonix Tears). So without further ado, I present to you my very first in a series of short, educational, DIY vids. Let me know what you guys think! I'm open to any constructive criticism and advice and am still learning daily on how I can make these better for you guys.
-Cheers

Better job than I could have done on the video for sure.

Simple enough for anyone to make RSO with tho I allow a longer soak, think days, to get as much of the whole plant extract as possible. For smoking it sucks but RSO isn't for smoking so it doesn't matter.

Gets a goodwork.gif from me!

Glad you enjoyed it! I personally fill vegan capsules (no animal gelatin) with MCT coconut and liquid sunflower lecithin, for my day to day medication. Thanks for the input!

I make cocobudder using LSL too. Cook it up in a crock pot that I overheat using a Variac to decarb the pot right in the oil instead of baking a lot of medicine out of it in the oven. I just eat it on a cookie or straight up off the measuring spoon. No water used in the process either.

i haven't either, i have some frozen dry material in my freezer from my last grow, i was wondering if it would work doing RSO....got me thinking...
I actually toss my flowers in the freezer with the Iso overnight before I make a batch. Frozen dried/cured material is the way to go, just have to seal it air tight, or even vacuum seal to keep any moisture out.

As in it was already dry before freezing? If so it's for sure good to do QWISO with. Just don't open the container until it is room temp, 12 hours at least then maybe heat the oven up to 120F, turn off heat and put a cookie sheet of pot in there until it cools down to dry out the last of the moisture.

yeah don't think it was air tight when i put it in there, hmmm

right after i trimmed the plant and cut it up, i put it in a ziplock bag, pushed as much air as i could.....that's why it still got me thinking, use it, or just throw it....

it's been in the there since my last grow, basically 9 month in the freeze

Hell no! Don't throw! The resin is all still there but the pot would taste crappy to smoke probably but fine for extracts.

okie dokie, gonna have to make a new plan for that, hmmm

feel like i'm gonna have to get it at least room temp, prolly put the stuff on a towel or something to catch the water coming off, or do it, hard like that, i should be able to chop up and then soak in everclear....

just spit balling here

Could just spread it out on cookie sheets or parchment paper and let it air dry over a couple days. For dry sift I try to not handle it at all so I don't crush the glands but for extractions with solvent or a carrier oil I run it thru a 1mm mesh screen first and some people toss it in a blender if they got lots to do. 1mm mesh is the size of window screen to keep the mosquitoes out. Damn tiny no-see-ums get thru just fine and their bite is just as annoying. 4 or 5 more months bug free at least now. :)

I'll also agree that freezer trim is just fine for RSO.
The first few times I've done RSO I usually left the trim + alcohol in the freezer. That was with the instructions I had at that point in time.
I've done it both ways and everything came out fine in the end.
Although taking super fresh trim started the crap out of me once. I was wringing out the trim and red liquid started coming out when it was hard pressed. Looked like food coloring. Come to find out it's sorta common and it's left over chlorophyll. Thought I was bleeding for a second or something.
