Is it possible to make a cbd oil from cbd buds and use thc from another strains?
How could the cbd and thc levels be measured? I would like to have a oil with high amount of cbd and low amount thc.

Sunshine,
Easiest way would be to find seeds for a plant that already has those ratios. I've seen various ratios. And if you are making a full plant extract like cannabutter...no reason at all you couldn't throw a few high thc buds to achieve the effect you desire. As for measuring...I know a few guys do home cbd measurement but I don't know the technique. Good luck...

CBD and THC concentrates readily blend, once they've been extracted separately. If you have the GC analysis of the two, it should be as easy as ratio and proportion.

If you want to blend flowers and then extract them, to achieve your desired blend, you can start with a GC headspace analysis of the buds. You would also have to extract samples to determine the average oil content of the two strains, after which it would again be ratio and proportion, but with many more variables, making accuracy problematic.

If you just want high CBD and low THC, as JD notes there are strains meeting those requirements, specifically Hemp, where THC is below 0.3%.

Pure CBD crystals from Hemp are also available, and what I personally use in the topical that I make for my own pain relief.

Good point! I mentioned CBD from commercial Hemp, which is where mine comes from. Hemp raised for fiber, et al, typically has a low oil content, but if you are growing acres of it, that's not an issue and its a bonus over fiber sales.

Before Joe started making isolate from Hemp, we grew Cannatonic, Maui Bubblegift, and Catalyst. The first two had an oil content of around 18%, but our first high CBD strain Catalyst was closer to the original land race and only produced around 5.7%, besides being a somewhat small scrawny plant by comparison.

I am very interested in this topic. I am currently growing a strain from Freeworld Genetics in Boulder CO called "Triple C". It's a Cherry x Cheery x Cheery Wine strain with a ratio of 30:1 so i can assume I'll get just that if grown properly. I've never grown "hemp" but been growing the herb for 25+ years.

Fresh out the gate I'll make BHO extract, decarb and then into edibles. Once I master chromatography I'll make 99.6-99.9% CBD crystals and then into edibles and other items for my spouse but need to speak with someone experienced in that process.

Fadedawg, please tell me about the pure cbd crystals you use against painrelief. Are you refering to cbd islolate?
Im looking for various ways to use cbd for painrelief but so far none of the cbd oil i´ve bought has given me any painrelief.

Yes, CBD isolate.

For instance, I dissolve 1 gram of CBD isolate into one ounce of Biotone Muscle and Joint Relief Therapeutic Massage Creme, with Glucosamine, Arnica, Boswella, and Devils Claw, for an almost instant relief topical.

Your a big baller when your buying isolate by the kilo. Pablo es'cbd'obar

Stay far away from imported cbd isolate. China does NOT do heavy metal testing. Guess what's in your super cheap isolate!

I just toured a CBD extraction facility last week - pretty neat stuff, they sold both oil and isolate. One room we were in they were filling kilo sized plastic jars with isolate, had about 50 of them sitting on a table - 7k each maybe?

Like I said it was a fun tour for an old farmer.

I make CBD gummies for my wife, and a CBD/CBN/THC gummy for myself.

I grow CBD hemp from American sources, and CBD autoflower plants from Euro seed banks.
I prefer separate plants. Not THC/CBD in the same plant.

Why? Because it is my understanding CBD requires a longer Decarb time. (Per Ardent in CO) and because I like the flexibility to blend or not blend myself! (Wake up American seed banks. You are missing a huge market.)

Anyway,
It takes a lot of plant material to make concentrates.

I use a Pollenex dry sift tumbler, to make keif. I then decarb in my Ardent Nova concentrate sleeve. Then I extract with ethonol and recycle ethonol with my Source Turbo.

I have flexible extract, I can disolve in oil, alcohol or glycerin.

I simply add to gummy recipe. (I like gummies, I can hide some of that "full spectrum" flavor, and disolving in mouth is a quicker way to get your medicine.)

I invested nearly a thousand in equipment plus time to grow and process. If I were only after CBD isolates it might be better to buy CO2 isolate in bulk. ($16 a gram at 28 gram quantities from Colorado grown and extracted isolate, for example)

I like homegrown, and full spectrum and the ability to custom blend. So I spend the time and money to make my own.
