I have a 125 watt cfl about 5-6 inches from 3 plants and I can not seem to keep things below 80*F...when I have a fan on them it increases the temp +2* if I turn the fan to blow away the temp goes up higher.??????
How do I cool down the room???
Temp in house is hard to cool down too.:fire:

You can only hope to cool down to general ambient temperature using this method. You could try freezing some bottles of water and putting them in front of or behind the fan. Or, you could actually ventilate the grow using exhaust and negative pressure. Or, you could get one of those portable AC units, but those also need to be exhausted/vented.

Also, before you spend big bux on a portable AC unit, they don't work as well as standard window units, and they cost a lot more. I got a portable AC unit this past summer and I so wish I'd just gotten a cheap $200 window unit instead. Actually, I did get a cheap window unit TOO, so I was able to compare them, and the portable AC unit (even though rated for more BTUs of cooling) simply does not compare. Next summer, another window unit, and the portable AC will go into the closet for emergency use.

But yeah, blowing warm air from one side of a room to the other isn't going to solve your problem. You need to cool down that room, basically.

What was said in the beginning of the thread.

What is the temperature in the house ????? Start there.

If it's too hot then get a window air conditioner, don't waste your money on a chiller, they are just portable airconditioners for small areas. Aquarium guys use them and I don't understand because for $400 less you can get the window air conditioner and cool off the room including yourself and the aquarium.

If you can't get the room temperature lower you are fighting a losing battle.

They use them because if you rely on ambient temperature alone then it can be a lot more expensive. Also, the aquarium people who use chillers usually also have them on systems that are using strong lighting such as metal halides that warm up the water too much.

However, I agree that they're expensive. I used other methods for cooling my own tanks.

Guess I wrote it out wrong, I should have put I understand why I just think it is smarter to cool the room with an air conditioner, that way the tank is cool, the room is cool and the you are cool.

the grow space for now is a 2'x 2' 1/2"x5' closet space with a 125 w cfl. I keep the sliding door open on grow side and have a ceiling fan on in the room. the room temp is at 86* grow space temp @ 88-90* during the day time....at night temps drop to 75-78*.
True grow space is in construction...

Unless you add something like air conditioning you are stuck at the room temperature and there isn't anything you can do.

That's the law of thermodynamics, sorry, I didn't write them.

honestly, ive grown weed in some fairly hot conditions, and although the heat u are talking about is somewhat high, i dont think it is all that bad, watch your plant, it will tell u what it needs, also if you can, put it outside maybe on a deck or something, obviously only if it cant be seen, that way it is getting light but not the closed in heat. maybe put a glass of water or something in the floor so that it keeps moisture in the air, any thing u can do until you can get them into a more suitable area will help.

if that doesnt help, and they are fairly important to you, cut you space in half with some sort of divider, use the other side of the closet as a exhaust area, have a fan sucking air out, and maybe crack your grow side enuff to allow air in, that may seem like alot to do, but depends on how important they are to you
