how to figure out lumen output.

Hey everyone. I was wondering how to figure out the amount of lumens put out by a particular light? And what amount of lumens are suppose to be put out put per square ft?

I am going to be growing under cfls for my first grow. What watt light is best for a small grow(one plant in a cardboard box)?
Thanks help is very much appreciated.

Step one, read the lumen output off the box. Step two not needed.

You are shooting for 5000 lumens a square foot or more.
