How to extract liquid culture

Hi my liquid culture is approximately a week old about size of a 50p I know to wait till half full but do I shake vigorous to break it up or do I just extract the culture as it is many thanks

I usually just suck some water up with a syringe and squirt it into the mycelium to break it up a bit.
