How to better your odds

I've spent a few days researching actual experiences pf growers getting caught to determine 1) How they got caught and 2) What happened to them

How to lower your odds:
1) Grow in a place you own. Renting is often a reason people get caught. You don't have access control.
One brother and sister had a condo and a maintenence man let himself in and with his cell phone, took pictures of what he thought was bomb making material. He went to the cops and let them in and they found the plants. Each got about 4 years for 18 plants. The brother got 2 additional years for a rifle he illegally modified.

2) Roommates are a bad idea. If you have roommates, I do not recommend growing.

3) The less plants, the better. Most of the easy busts I came across were because of wannabe kingpins stuffing 100+ plants in a small house in a bad neighborhood. In one story I read they had 300 plants, had tapped the main electric line, and it was obvious from the smell what they were up to. The cop simply knocked on the door and yelled that he knew what they were doing and the idiot opened the door and surrendered himself. Another case involved a fire started by tapping into the electric line.

3) Order your gear online. Some local cops have gotten warrants on customers of grow shops. They sit outside and get plates. One cop even went through a womans garbage to find cause for a warrant. Maybe you should toss your incriminating garbage somewhere else as well? Or burn it?

4) I am not convinced that having a medical license to grow/comsume protects you more than it makes you a target. It seems whenever the feds feel like it they can look up those with a license and go bust them.

How to lower your sentence if caught:

1) Have no priors. In Alabama a man was sentenced to life without parole because he had a prior felony. If you have priors they will not go lenient on you. In Mississippi having a prior and caug with an ounce can also be life! Don't travel to or live in Mississippi or Oklahoma.

2) Don't sell. Don't have minors around. Keep away from schools. One mother in Oklahoma got 12 years for selling $31 worth because she had her daughter go get change. She was an idiot that sold to a cop but still - you will likely get hit with child endangerment if there are kids in the house. Funny how I can keep a fridge full of grain alcohol and thats ok right?

3) Having fewer plants also decreases the sentence. Its hard to say what the magic number is but I think it is 6-8.

It appears to me that having 4-6 plants like I am considering, in a basement of a home we will own, is fairly safe. I am moving to a more lenient state from a cruel one (Florida). I last grew 5 years ago in a mobile home I rented. In hindsight, it would have been very easy for me to get caught. All it would have taken is the landlord barging in.

Looking the stories up has pissed me off at the state of affairs. But honestly if you tap into the electric line and cause a fire you deserve prison. Same if your dumbass crams 200 plants in a 2 bedroom house. Those are the type of things that will still be illegal after legalization.

sound advice, but that part about having an ounce and getting life? tell me more about that, it seems a bit much unless it was a 3 strike law(which is bullshit)

Some decent points. A lot of it is common sense people steeling electricity, growin 100's of plants, or growing and selling in a school zone is always a bad idea. Police goin threw your trash is 100% true, once it's on the sidewalk anyone can.
Some is BS, police aren't getting warrants because you go into a hydro store. I've been in dozens never seen anything illegal in one. Believe it or not, not every customer grows weed.
The worst public pretender on the planet would have that laughed outta court. Same thing you'll hear people say the police can use flir to check temps of your house or info from electric meter to get a warrant. The truth is they need a warrant to collect that info.
Knowing what your rights are if caught or questioned are equally important to stay free.

Rule #1 keep your mouth shut
Rule #2 understand what the law is. Know what the law is and what the laws does are often very different.
Rule #3 repeat rules 1 and 2

In the UK trash remains your property until the bin men collect it at which point it becomes theirs. Because recycable waste has value or something.
