How The Pistols Grow?

do the pistols always grow out the top of the calyx? one of mine which im not sure of sex looks like its opening from the side in what looks like a calyx(do males have calyx?) and the slit is white from whats showing inside i think, i was hoping it was pistols busting out the side of the calyx

I only ask because i often cant make it to my plants even once a week so i need to be able to pull males as soon as i am 100% on sex...id hate to come back in a week with pollen flying all over other already flowering females

If you see what look like balls forming over then you know its probably a hermie.

no picture, i dont gave a camera good enough for this...i am not sure its a calyx but it is more tear shaped than ball shaped

if theres tiny little hairs you can be sure its female, thats how i figured out, just get a real good look.
after that just gotta worry bout hermies
