How soon to start nutes in bubbleponics

I have just started a bagseed in a bubbleponics setup and was just wondering when i should start the nutes. It has just popped up and is 2 days old. There are no roots showing out the bottom of my pot yet. I used the Dutch Master nutrient calculator and it says to use nutes from week one. It's only a weak mix of 560ppm (Our normal tap water has a ppm of about 300-350ppm). I dont want to add my nutes to soon because it will kill my plant but i dont want to stunt its grow by not having the nutes that it needs. Can anyone give me any suggestions on what i should do.

So while it is still small will it be able to get what it needs out of the tap water? I know i have to ph the water, but is there anything else i have to do?

The first little set of roundish leafs(cotylens,sp? ) are the stored food. When they start to wither or brown will be when to add nutes. There is absolutely no need to Ph plain water. Ph affects nute uptake via the roots, no nutes = no Ph.

i normaly add nutes from the get go without any issues . I Also Add seasol for extra root grow. I Notice that my clones show no signs of getting to much . I Use One quarter what i would use with a plant that is Bigger, i also Dont need to swap out the nutes/water from the clones for a while.

I normaly add nutes from day one, but that is with clones.....I use clonex liquid baby food...I add just enough to get my ph down where I want it and let her rip....The PPM is about 350ppm.....And I also let it go for a cupple weeks then I change the water.....It's been working really good............nitro..

Thanks for all the advice, i started the nutes today, they are only weak with a ppm of 400. I am using the Dutch Master range which includes DM One Grow, Add .23, Silica and Zone 1. I will also be using DM One Potash+ when it starts to flower.

Hey jim....

Looking at your pic's....starting from seed you might want to just give them some ph'ed water for a little longer.....then after you get a few more leaves then add nutes.....I normally just do clones...seeds might be a little more sensitive...........nitro..

Sorry i miss typed. The ppm was actually 510. It is now 5 days old and a second set of leaves have popped out. I doesn't look like the nutes are too much so far but ill keep an eye on them.E2cusi_eu_pwXmaZV4Xz_YcnKGW3qSc2Liu5HAVgJ6c.jpgoxYKEGjuYbuPBPga6su-XZG1QKpy7uH8sNmtOoIuH6E.jpg

The thing about it is this, the plant has it's own stored food source. This makes the plant grow roots looking for more food. When you start feeding immature roots they will take longer to grow than one that is forced to find food.

Decided just to empty the whole res and refill it with ph'd water. It will be interesting to see the root growth now. There is no evidence of any roots growing out the bottom of the pot as yet but i will keep an eye out for them.

Looks like i definitely started the nutes too soon. :wall: Burnt my little baby. I took it out of the res and planted it in a pot with soil and perlite. I will let it recover for a couple of weeks then probably put it back into the res. Since i put it into the pot it looks like it has perked back up a bit. The leaves are starting to reach for the light again. What would your advice be, should i just leave it in the pot until its finished or should i put it back into the res in 1-3 weeks time and go from there.

Why did you transplant it??

Where are your lights at from the seedlings? They are definitely stretching. What nutes are you running?

It would probably be a good idea to invest in a RO system, I am on a well, as well. Assuming that's why your ppm''s so high. The lower ppm really helps out, you get so much more food in there than the misc. minerals that are too big to be taken in can cause problems. Maybe use bottled water to dilute your base water till then.

You could probably give them just your 350ppm for two weeks easy, maybe 3- or till they start asking for NPK, youll know.

I transplanted it so i would stop playing with it. I get really inpatient and change the res all the time. Im using 50w(actual) of cfl's 6500K. They are only about 1.5-2 inches from the light. As for the water it is straight tap water. I think the ppm of the water is so high because the council treat the water with fluoride and whatever else the throw into it. As well my tds meter is on the hanna 0.65 conversion scale so it reads a bit higher anyway. I have a 10000lt rainwater tank out the back so i might use that water instead. Im using the Dutch Master Gold One range. Im thinking of starting another one and just try to be patient this time.

I get that, I change my res closer to every 4 or 5 days than 7 like most.. but to transplant? idk, sounds like unneccesary stress as of right now.

You're letting your water sit for 24 hours before you mix and swap your res arent you?

I run on the Hanna 0.7 meters. Continuous and Pen. The big variations come with the larger readings.

I have heard good and bad about rain water, Id just test your ppm, if it's lower- run it.

What are the dimensions you are growing in? x2 50w cfls may or may not be enough..

Good luck grower.

its only a small area. Its 80cm wide x 50cm high x 40cm deep. I have 2 plants plants in the area and both have 2 cfl's each. I am probably going to add a 36w diy LED panel running 9 x 3w red LEDs and 3 x 3w blue LEDs. Hopefully that should be enough light.
