How should install my stakes to hold up branches?

I'm anticipating that I'm going to have to put some stakes in some of my plants to hold up some branches with big buds so they won't fall/flop down.
My question is it okay to just plung the stakes kind of deep into the soil? I'm worried about the stakes penetrating roots and tearing them. Or maybe I should just duct tape the stakes to the sides of my pots? What do you guys do?
Btw I'm like 2-2 1/2 weeks into bloom

Perfect time to stake ur plants!
Hopefully the pots your using, aren't flared/tappered to much. If they are, what I do wouldn't work so well. You would have to pierce the rootball. No biggie, don't trip.
If you have pots that the walls are pretty much straight up and down: I stake in between root ball and the pot. 4 stakes per pot, works great for me. Minimal damage to roots. Than use twist-tie ;-)
I do this for EVERY crop I grow(in pots), rite at about 2-2.5 weeks from flip, when growing trees. I do a trellis when growing SOG, and for your more traditional hydro grows.

Stakes thu the soil wont hurt as long as you aren't using something huge. Stakes duct taped to the outside of the pot will give you a somewhat larger perimeter to work with. Depending on what you're growing in you may be able to use tomato cages, if you can find them.

Awesome, thanks for the help guys! I was just worried i would fuck up my roots. I would be staking them near the perimeter of the walls too. But yea im going to def need them, and now i feel alot more at ease, thanks again.

A considerate grower at last...good for you
but I often drill the rim someplace
and insert a length of bamboo,
about the thickness of your little finger
also yoo yoos have been used with great success
