How often do you change your RO filters?

I have had my RO filter for like 4 months now. Been pumping about 40 gallons a week through it. How often do you guys replace your filters?

Do you mean the carbon pre/post filters? Considering a typical RO uses 3-5g to make one, then you are running 100-500g of tap water through the prefilter. To be safe change quarterly

You need a TDS/PPM/EC meter to test the RO membrane (compare result to tap water TDS/PPM/EC).

The RO should reject ~ 80- 90% (depending on water line pressure). If it's < 70% then you probably blew through your prefilter

I have residential RO filter in my house running on well water, being used for drinking water for about 7 years now, lately I push it hard to get me all water for my grow. Never changed a filter, membrane or anything. Water comes out of it at 40 PPM (350 PPM in). So I guess I run it to the ground, then buy a new one.

A carbon prefilter is necessary to remove the chlorine from municipal water, chlorine will quickly destroy the RO membrane

On a well you MIGHT need a sediment prefilter
