How much water?

So....my setup is 1 42W CFL per plant right now.

I was wondering how often I should be watering the plants and how much.

I havent watered the plants since I transplanted them two days ago beacuse only the top of the soil is dry. About one inch down is still moist.

I planned on watering every other day with about a quart of water.

Is that going to be too much?

you need to water based on the needs of the plant, not a set cycle.

the roots need to become completely dry, thus allowing for their uptake of oxygen. if you water too often, they will not get enough water and will droop (and die if not corrected). You can purchase a moisture meter for $5 or just wait until the pots feel really light, like almost empty, before watering again. As they get bigger they will soak it up more quickly and you'll need to adjust your watering accordingly.

Just make sure you keep those lights as close as possible to the plant!

Good luck:leaf:

water once a week. A constant moisture to your plants can easily suffocate your roots. & if you let your dirt go dry before you water your roots go thirsty & they grow out in search of water. I would say after you water your plants lift the bucket & get used to the heavy weight. & when the buckets go dry get used to the weight difference of a dry bucket. You will be able to tell when your plants need water by the weight of your bucket. A heavy bucket still has water & a light bucket is due for another watering. Watering everyday even a little bit can lead to overwatering. Dirt can hold alot a moisture for a fare amount of time.

thanks!!

and im actually keeping the lights an inch or so away right now cause when i put the about 1 CM away the new growth leaves started turning a little brown. I think i burned them a little. So i moved the lights a little further away.

Good stuff! 1cm is probably a little close...even 1inch could be pushing it, but its all about the plants reactions.

yeah....1 cm was definately too close. right now i have been keeping them at 1 inch or so and the plants are loving it!!! they have doubled in size in the past 2 days! I now have 5 set leaf clusters right above the first set of 2! I thought it would have 3 leaf clusters first lol
