How much soil for a 3ft plant?

2.6 feet hahaha, so precise.

I couldn't tell you really but for a general estimate, in my grow i used a 3 gallon bucket.

Depending on the genetics/strain I grow in either 4 gallon or 7 gallon pots. Roots need room and when they get to the point where they are packed against the edge of the pot and circle around and around it they become less efficient.

Lots of women say that bigger is better and I have the same belief about pots. If you have the room you will always be better off with a little larger pot.

If you are doing sea of green and just going for a bunch of tops that is a different growing style but if you want full thick bushy plants with buds all over you need room for roots.

My family owns a nursery and one thing I have learned about plants in general is that their root mass will pretty much match the size of the above ground plant, minus leaves, so imagine cramming an entire plant into the size pot you are using and then ask yourself if things would be crowded and if more room for roots is needed to have healthy productive plants or not?

I tranplant 4 times. It makes a stronger root system. I finish with 5 gal pots.

That is something I do not do, though many do it that way. I do not start small pot-wise and then repot and repot until finally reaching the final size pot. When you do that you risk waiting to long and your roots circling the smaller pot and then if you do not loosen them or cut them so they then will grow out from the cuts or expand from the loosened roots that had been circling the pot the root system will never be as large and as efficient as it can be and that means a plant that will not grow as fast or as large and a reduced yield.

I grow in 4 gallon or 7 gallon pots and I start out my popped beans in the one and only pot they will ever be in and it works great for me.
