how much PH down should I use?

I just tested my city tap water and its PH is like 8.0. I was wanting to know if someone could tell me how much PH down should I use to lower the PH for 1 gallon of water? If possible.

5 drops...stir it.. Then test it again. I usually end up using 7 drops of PH down to get it to 5.7.. Our tap water is 8.0 as well.
sorry forgot to mention....I usually boil my water first ..let it cool..then test the ph and make adjustments before putting the water into my system to be on the safe side.

thank you very much. so 5 drops with just water. do you add your nutes then test it? I am using happy frog soil if it makes a difference. I am using fox farm trio for nutes.

Yes 5 drops to the water. (then adjust accordingly)..for soil growers I think the PH should be around 6 though (I only grow hydro). I add nutes later and use a PPM meter to test and adjust after that. But you could add the nutes right away, and test.

Boiling the water is just what "I" do, do not think it is 100% necessary though. You could add the nutes right away (if you are using it all at once) then test it...however even with the nutes I would still start off with 5 drops, then add 2 drops at a time till I get the desired PH level.

ok got it. thank you again. have a great safe new year.

Sorry forgot to say.. do NOT add the nutes before boiling (if that is the way you are going)..let it cool to room temp first..then add them.

Happy Growing :)

I just do it cause my tap water is super high in chlorine...helps bring the PH down a bit from start I find...just something I do..lol

That tap water will be ok to use without boiling, boiling water is risky and uses a lot of electricity.

LOL.... do you ever cook dinner?

since when is boiling water risky?

Not only that, not all pH 8.0 water is created equal either. In low ppm water you might only need a drop. In hard water above 300ppm out the faucet, you might need as much as 5 mL. That guy telling you to use 5 drops and calling people retards is a fucking retard.

IMO pH adjusters, ie pH up and pH down, should NEVER be added neat into water with nutes.

The reason for this is that at the point of delivery of the raw pH up/down the nutes can hit very low pH numbers causing them to become locked out.

Whenever adjusting pH using UP/DOWN I mix the UP/DOWN at 5ml per 500ml of plain water and adjust gradually. This allows a more controlled adjustment.

If the nutes your adjusting for instance happen to go as low as pH4 then certain elements will be locked out that cannot be brought back by correcting the pH. So if you go too low you have to remix your whole batch with new water.

ALL pH up and down products are different concentrations. You need to find what works best for you with your products. IME never add raw up or down to any premixed nute mix.

Don't assume your water is always the same pH either. If you get water from a tap that is seldom used you pH can be substantially lower. I had this happen with well water and it is due to water sitting in the copper pipes.

BTW, Chlorine can be neutralized by sunlight too, the UV will do it.

boiling water??- never heard of that.... save time and hustle and by yourself RO filter ..... its only 200$... i just dont see myself boiling 150 gallons of water every flush... ( i flush my system every 7 days).....
