How much light do other non MJ plants need daily.

I have a little area set up for my herbs now. I have green onion, oregano, rosemary, sage, and some chilis growing. They are growing under a 100 watt LED light. My question is how much light do they need daily? I know how light hungry MJ is, and how that translates into yields. However my cooking herbs are less demanding right? I am thinking 12 hours or less on the spices? Maybe more to bloom my peppers and tomatoes?
 
I've seen them on window sills. Herbs like as much sun as you can give them. Thankfully they'll survive on less.

I have read anywhere from 5 to 8 hours of light each day. I am sure 12 hours would produce even better results. By using artificial light indoors it would be easy to just pop them in with other plants usuing 12 hours or more of light each day.
 
But there's a difference between 5hrs of 100w floro and 5hrs of direct sun. indoors under that kind of light I would keep the lights on 24hrs/day. If your MJ is in flower then keep the herbs under 12hrs then move to a sill or another light source.
 
Interesting. The light I am using is LED though. It is a purple spectrum, very high in blue, with a little red mixed in. Probably not as good as the sun, bit very effective and penetrating. I think it would be more effective than floros, hence maybe less hours needed daily.
 
All I know is I leave a pot full of sage, rosemary, oregano, and thyme out in the cold all winter at latitude 47... I cut off their roots and replant in good soil every spring and they produce great herbs every year. Going on year 4 now with the same plants, they are tough. Peppers are a different story, much more like MJ in their needs...
 
This is what I grew from seed under 1 6" long, 10w, 10,000K CFL in 2 months. This basil plant is 2 feet tall at 2 months old. So as you can see herbs can grow with less light then MJ plants.

Nice basil plant! My oregano, sage, and rosemary, have nearly double in size after a week of 100 watt LED light indoors. The plants dont look sun beaten, or have insects, like outdoors. Most importantly they taste great, I snip from them frequently and they regenerate. I think I'll add a tomato and a pepper plant and another 100 watt red LED.

Basil can bolt even under 24/0 lighting. I've had it happen. As soon as it came to 2 feet tall I topped it. When it was working on its 3rd set of true leafs it was already starting to branch out. By the 4th or 5th set of true leafs it was starting to work on its 2nd set of branches per node.

Yea I prefer indoors over out doors for gardening. I live to keep it as natural as possible but can't really do that indoors.
 
I grow herbs in my aerogarden and the herb setting is 17/7 I have dill/chives/basil and mint growing with 2 cannabis clones
 
Basil is also EXTREMELY easy to clone.

I grew 8 basil plants this winter in my aerogarden and a coffee can dwc...got enough to make some pesto!!!
 
So far my oregano, rosemary, and sage have exploded in new growth under LED. My sad little tomato plants from Home Depot have required a bit more work! They were dry and half crippled when I brought them home. I transplanted them to larger pots day one, with ocean forest and perlite added. After getting a good 16+ hours of light on them they have perked up a little. They still had slight yellowing on some leaves. So I started some grow nutes at 1/4 strength. They are now greening up and growing finally.
