Im gonna try to germinate 25 seeds in paper towls but i really dont want to move them straight out side because they might get not enough water... or idk im paranoid about it

so i have a chest which is plenty big for 20 1.5 in diameter cups with little seeds in it but i dont know how much light i should have. right now ive got a 8 inch 8 watt flourecent and a 20 watt cfl... will that be enough for the 1st week... jsut untill they get their roots growing??

The lights are about 8inches away from the top of the cups

thanks

the 8 inch light you got is worthless but get a few more cfl and put them 1-2 inches above the plants. They should get a good healthy start like this. Also I wouldn't recommend going past 2-3 weeks without getting even more lighting or putting outside.

yeah get them down to 1-2 in away. If it's only for a week or two I'ld suspect 40 watts or so would do and that 8 watter isn't worthless, it's certainly not the best grow light but it is an extra 8 watts of light and if you are trying to get away with as little as you can you may as well use it. Just get as much light as you can easily and affordably fit in your space in there and get them outside asap.

for seedlings you don't need nearly as much light as for older plants, but id still try to abide by the 3000 lumens per square foot rule if you can.
