how many seeds to plant

I'm trying to understand how many seeds I should plant once I am ready to grow. I want to be able to choose 6 healthy, females once veg is nearly done. If I planted 12 seeds, would that be enough? That would mean I get to pull up to 6 male or unhealthy plants before I get my 6 healthy girls (California grow license says 12 veg, so I grow 12 until flower, then have to have 6).

Thanks for your help

Statistically speaking half of regular seeds will be female and the other half male. But like anything else this isnt always the case. You could end up with 12 males or 12 females or any combination. It also has to do with the conditions they are in. Plant as many as you can legally, I would just make sure you have the space for extra females in case you get lucky.

you should really just get fem seeds and call it a day a couple extra bucks for a almost sure thing compared to regs where its more of a get lucky imo reg seeds are a waste of time and money with all the nutrients and dirt you are gonna waste to just kill them anyways when you can get a whole 5pk for 30 bucks each plant avg 2 oz min.on the street for really nice buds your spending up to 30$ or more in a dispensary

i got 2-5 packs of fem seeds. popped them all. but i think 2 or 3 didnt pop. i still have to check on their progress. imo, its my fault. im a fakin newb and might have screwed a couple of them up.

heres a tip. if your a newb, dont buy expensive seeds (like i did). but the cheaper ones to learn on. live, learn and and alot of questions form a reliable source. and dont drink the kool-aid.

the seeds I'm going with (high grade seeds malawi gold) aren't feminized, so I'll be going with just regular seeds.

I'll plant all 12 in hopes of getting at least 6 healthy, females.

Good luck, your odds aren't bad.

since we are on the new subject of seeds, and i dont feel like making a thread, and couldnt find an answer when searching. i popped 10 seeds (fems), 6 are taking off, 2 more are hopefulls, and 2 are duds (still hoping for a miracle tho). when can i make the up-pot from sprouted seed in seed starter kit and humidome + heat mat + 2x4' daylight flourescent lights to quart pot w/light warrior and 18/6 veg cycle? im running a dimmable 600w ac cool tube hood (77*max room temp). the largest sprout is (tall) 1.5" x2, 1" x4, 2 trying to poke out, and 2 duds.

thanks

Thanks.

I've never reused soil from a pulled plant for another grow. I do use it outdoors for non-cannabis plants.

okay I was just asking because I'll be using $120 worth of soil just to throw out $60 worth, but all good. I guess I only have to do this when I'm starting from regular seeds anyways. thanks again
