How many plants?

Hey everyone, I am about to start a temporary small grow until I get the money to get all of my desired equipment. I have a 400 watt metal halide/high pressure sodium light in a 13'' by 18'' box. I was considering either just growing one big plant or maybe a few small ones. Would a sea of green with four plants be fessible? Also, how large should my pots be if wanted to grow my plants to the height of about two and a half feet? Any suggestions will help. Thanks guys!

it's 13x18inches right? you got heaps of light for that space, and as long as you can vent it and deal with the heat, i dont see why you couldnt do 6x6inch pots.. you wouldnt really want to take them up to 2.5 foot tho in such small pots

Yea, I will have about 36,000 lumens over about 1.5 square feet. I think I am gonna keep it cool and vent it with a small rotary fan. What if I had six circular pots with a four inch diameter that are four inches tall? How tall could I grow my plants in them? How tall could I grow plants in plastic cups? I could grow more smaller ones as oppossed to a few bigger ones.
