How Many LEDs per Plant

Ok im am a new grower planning to do my first grow next week, the lighting i would like to use is a UFO 90 watt light, i plan to grow 4 plants each in 5 gal buckets. Is 1 90 watt LED UFO light good enough to sustain 4 plants? From what i see on youtube it should be as long as i keep the really close to the plants due to its lack of heat.

You wont get much of anything at all trying to flower 4 full plants with one ufo. Unless you keep it over 1 of those plants the entire time haha

So the best bet is to grow 1 plant with that light until i can afford to buy more. Now i have 2 45 watt 350 lumen light that can sustain a good plant for 3 weeks until i need the 90 watt. What i was thinking about doing was waiting until the first plant was about 6 or 7 weeks old and then planting a whole new seed, that way when week 10 and 11 come and the plant is close to harvesting i can replace that plant with the old one.

Yeah i'd probably stick to 1 or maybe 2 indica dominate plant at a time under the ufo

not in 5 gallon pots
maybe 2 in 2 gal
If your actual draw is 90 watts and not 30 x 3watt leds youre probably looking at a coverage area of 2-3 sq feet 18" x 18" max

Good LED's cost money upfront...ufo's are junk! but I know you are committed so I would do 2-4 plants in 2gallon pots with like 4 cfl's helping out. If clones then flip right away cause ufo's wont penetrate much. If seed then do more in a sog style w/ one week of veg then flip. Prune them well cause only the tops are going to be worth something.

that doesnt explain why its better to have 2 plants in a 2 gal and not in a 5 gal. i figure if i have 2 plants in a 5 gal then they will stay kinda small maybe moderate give me enough buds for a small personal collection.

ok this is why
especially from seed no two plants are the same they will probably have different feeding requirements and will Finnish at diferent times
so If you have two plants in one pot what do you do when its time to flush ? yeah you can put the two in one pot but why as its not best practice
if you ask for advice we can give it its up too you whether you follow it or not perhaps you know better ?
who knows????? but then why were you asking in the first place ?
Leds are not a miracle answer to everything and ufo generally are piles of shit to start with, thats why they are so cheap as the man says above you will probably want to add a few extra fitting to get a good result
anyway i'm done here
good luck grower

To answer why people are discouraging you from using the 5 Gal container - it's because a larger size container like 5 Gal is usually used to have longer veg time (several weeks) and therefore larger plants. But with your UFO your light penetration will probably not be more than 1' or 2' so you won't want plants that big, so people are suggesting the 2 Gal containers which will mean shorter veg time, smaller plant, but more efficient use of your time, growing medium and light. To put another way, you could use 5 Gal containers but I don't think your yield would be much better than using a smaller container due to the lack of light penetration. Hope this helps...

Im sorry but I am from the ol' times I guess. Happy roots = happy plants. Happy roots are from plants in their own pot and not fighting for area from another plant. But you can call me from the ol times....

People should relax, he's just asking a question. Yes you can grow more than one plant in a single pot, you just need to manage both plants is all, ie. training BUT considering you have a 90w ufo with at most 18x18 inches of flowering space whats the point. You would be struggling on so many issues that it is pointless. I would focus on one plant at a time and top a number of times to get as much bud at canopy level to maximize your limited light.

This is 4 plants per 15L pot in mapito, 4x pots totaling 16 plants, see any stressing?? The amount of space or light is irrelevant, it's the 4 plants per 15L pot that debunks what's been said.

Thanks all you guys helped, im still gonna use the 5 Gal because thats all i have, but im going to do a shorter veg time to keep the plant small and the buds a fair size. Also i have 2 other LEDs that fit into a desk lamp that im using tho put light on the bottom of the plant.

You can and it will work fine but not necessary. But because you are using ufo's I don't think that they need all the space. It is not exactly 2 in 5gallons=2.5gal/plant. I ran 2 plants in each 30gal outdoor this year no prob. I think with your light(s), small space, and no veg, 2gal will be ideal. But you could do 2 5gallons with 2 in each if that is what you want/already have.

sorry but i have to disagree with you ....if you need proof UFOs work then take a peek at this journal https://www.rollitup.org/stealth-micro-cab-growing/580284-stealth-led-dresser-grow.html . ..the pic is of RIU member smooths at 7week flowering under 2 90w ufos...just sayin...................................Also i started my 90 watt x 2 UFO LED journal on the first of this year... https://www.rollitup.org/indoor-growing/605826-90-watt-x-2-ufo.html .The first link will show you solid proof ufo's are not junk....that being said both of these journals are using 2 90w ufos..the difference is i bought mine for $110.00 eatch off of amazon...where smooths dresser grow used more expensive grow shop UFO's ....in my opinoin other than the color ratio on the diodes these are basically the same lights..at the end of my journal the debate on expensive ufo VS inexpensive ufo will have a little more clarity. ..i would not suggest growing more than one plant per pot as they will be fighting over nutrients, root space, water and lighting ..and i would not suggest trying to grow 4 plants with 1 UFO as you would probably get just as much yield if not more out of 1 o r 2 plants than all 4 put together....hope thus helps and as always these are just my opinions ;)..............................................................................

I think when you only have a 90w UFO led you would have to get it so close to the plant that it decreases the coverage area. Larger pots = larger plant = larger area to cover so your plants would probably start battling for space under the light. I guess you can rotate them every once in a while to prevent that but to make it worth your while just add some CFLs or T5s when you can
