How many Cree 3590's to = 600 watt or 1000 watt HPS

How many Vero29s to = 600 watt HPS or 1000 watt HPS
How many Citizen model??? to = 600 watt HPS/1000watt HPS

I assume 1 LEC 315 watt = 1 600 HPS though the LEC has a better light spectrum.

Finally are Osrams better than Cree?

From what i can tell it works out to 500hps=315lec=225cree3590. I dont know if anybody has done side by side with exact same conditions but i would use this as starting. I dont know the vero or osram

Hard to say, but to give you a real answer... I would say it depends on how efficient you want to drive them. aim for mid 50s to get the best bang you the buck... and keep in mind that you want about 35-50W per square ft. No osrams are not as good as the 3590 or the 70. not enough power to efficiency ratio.

Also it would take 4-5 LECs to light a 5x5 at around the same efficiency as $1200 of cobs. and that about 60-61% efficient.

@Colo MMJ you arent getting serious answers because the question "how many" makes absolutely no sense. Somewhere between a cobs maximum rating and so using many cobs that the LEDs no longer light up.

Perusing the internet you can find the following information:

1000w SE bulb - 1.02 - 1.19 (depending on bulb) umol/j
1000w DE bulb - 1.7 umol/j
CXB3590 3500K 80CRI @2.1 amps - 2.3 umol/j
CXB3590 " @1.4 amps - 2.6 umol/j

Not considering reflective issues and going with 1.19, 517 watts of 3590 at 2.1 amps to replace a 1000w SE bulb. 740 watts to replace a 1000w DE, or 654 watts at 1.4 amps.

Figures I have found for CMH bulbs range from 1.66 to 1.95.

I'm seeing 2.08 for LEC in a google search, but the link doesn't go directly to the data.
Thats what I found also, Since there any not many manufactures I dont see it being far off. A guy at the Hydro Giant swears by them... no matter how many times I show him videos of some high quality results...smh

If it's really 2.08umol/J, that's amazing... but then why are people even bothering with gavita if it's really 2.08? I guess i could spend some time digitizing CMH spectrum.... has someone done it yet? (because i really don't want to)

Start up price, only a 2.5ft spread...so for any large area is would cost like 4*450 and thats just a 5x5... when one gavida provide decent PAR in the same space for the same price as one. Some people in the winter use the heat for their home so its not as bad money wise.

But still... better umol/j for a cheaper price? Cobs are just the best answer currently. would you rather pay 1800 for 1200W at 2.08 umol/j (2496), or pay 1200 for 800W and 2.6umol/j (2080)?

More power, more efficient, more good.

Long term I think the numbers work them selves out pretty well. Im not sure if the above was at the in reference to only the CD binned 3500K, but Im running DB 4000ks and thats a bit more I believe.

Thanks but I think some of those dudes are haters like Kenpo karate. :dunce: :finger:  :spew:

The other people here like Rahz, MeGa, GrowDict and others are awesome

You are usually very cool and I love your DIY Cob thread. :peace:

If you are seeing that then you should also be seeing 2.1 for double ended HPS. For LEC it's really more like 1.9 at best though.

Problem with both HPS and LEC is that it's a bulb needing a reflector which will take away at least 19% of the light. Which is where the 1.7 to 1.8 figure for HPS DE comes from depending on which testresults you take.

I have heard rumors that cmh is getting an efficiency bump. Just rumors none the less once you take into account reflector loss they are still inferior and led just keeps getting better. So cmh is at 90-95% maturity where I feel blue phosphor conversion led is around 75-80% maxed. Mixing phosphor led and monos will eventually yield higher numbers than possible with phosphor conversion alone. Eventually.....
