I think that would work well. I use the 6 inch duct booster fan from homedepot to cool my 250 watt HPS/MH and it works great.

There is a black white and green wire that is attached to the fan. You need to get an extension cord and cut of the female end exposing the same type wires. Attach the green to green, black to black, and white to white with some wire nuts and then electrical tape together. Plug in and you are ready to go. http://www.homedepot.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?storeId=10051&langId=-1&catalogId=10053&productId=100024324

there is an extension cord you can pick up from home depot while your there getting the fan. I did this same thing and my fan works great. Good luck man, hope I helped

how large of a blower should i duct to my hood of my 400 watt hps?

would this be sufficient? http://www.homedepot.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?storeId=10051&langId=-1&catalogId=10053&productId=100396544

Those fans will work well but they tend to burn out easy and make a lot of noise. Their cfm rating is significantly reduced with much duct run at all. Those fans are notorious for being overrated on their cfms anyway, but I have seen them used with success. If it is in your budget, the centrifugal style of fans run much quieter (especially with a fan controller), are better suited for ducting, and should last forever.

As a sidenote, It seems like a lot of people on here fail on their first attempt to cool a 600 in a small space. It can be controlled, but ITS A LOT OF HEAT!

Good luck!

Its probably gonna take ACTUAL 100-200 cfm to cool that fan. once you get the ductwork on it, that fan will probably be about right Just dont expect it to be quiet or your next thread will be "How do I make this fan quiet?" Peace
