How low for a 400W? + rep

That is a good # for plants. For seedlings just getting used to it start at 30" and drop it a few " a day till you get to 8-12. If you have a cooltube you can get as close as 6".
 
If they are seedlings they will burn at close range. If you bring down the light a few inches per day the plants will "harden" to the 400W. As long as you don't leave the light at 30" for too long they will not stretch. Good luck. :joint:
 
To add to the good advice you've allready got in this thread i'd like to add something,dont get too concerned about a little stretching in the seedling stage,i prefer my seedlings a bit stretch,come time to transplant it allows me to bury them a bit deeper,once you transplant the plant should be used to the heavy light then you bury em deep & keep the lights within one foot.
