I split my stem right near where I topped the plant. I want to take clones but want to wait till the stem heals. It’s not a big split. Maybe .25 inches down the stem. I have the stem wrapped in duct tape. Should I give it about a week before taking the tape off to allow the stem to heal? My plant is a few months old now.

Use a twistie to hold it together. They start healing quickly.

I have had plants finish just fine with a split stem. Just support the branches so it doesn't get worse and it will be fine.

Here is an example from last harvest.

stem break.jpg

As you can see no attempt was made to repair the break and it ran another few months after the break.

My snapped stem healed in less than two weeks. I splinted it with a toothpick and wrapped w/ twist-ties. Now it's a lot thicker at the break site, buds are still growing - but when I removed the twist-ties, the toothpick's grown into the stem and stuck in there, lol. Just gonna leave it ... Seems to be doing fine :)

As long as the phloem and xylem are intact stem breaks wont trouble the plant that much, great way of training sometimes :-)
