How hot is too hot to clone?

After never having any trouble cloning in my life, I just had TWO batches of clones basically not take. Some are turning black and dying off in a few days. (I'd show you pics but I'm on the other side of the country right now) I did everything as I usually do: cleaned all tools, filtered water, clean hands, same routing solution, same light, same dome, same cubes. After talking to the boys at my neighborhood hydro store, they suggested it could be the heat. Yesterday the sitter moved my cloning station out of the room with the flowering, vegging, and nursery in it, as that adds up to a lot of lights and basically constant heat.

Any experience with unexplained die offs?

Wow that is strange, I usually keep my rooting clones at between the high 60's and low 70's. The only thing I can think of is this a different strain than what you have been cloning? I remember a few years ago I had a problem with El Monstre from sannies, I was like 0 for 50, where I usually run in the very high 90%. Looking on sannies sight I found in his discussion section there were many people with the same problem. To make a long story short once I bred it a few times to itself I didn't have the problem anymore and his later runs also didn't have that problem. Just one of those plant things I guess. Good Luck in the future.

Seems high 60's to low 70's is the sweet spot for me also. I can usually keep that, but I just stepped it up to a T48 Turbo Kloner. I mention this because the water pump in this model is in the reservoir and keeps the temps at about 78-80. I do notice more black tips and roots do take longer to form if they even do. Luckily I have the opportunity to babysit right now and add ice 3x a day. I also freeze 1 Liter bottles off water to drop in there before and after work. I've read that clones don't really need much light, maybe you can adjust fire so the temps can come down a little. I mean, in nature the seeds fall at the feet of mature plants and the new seedlings get filtered/shaded light at best? I just have a little 1' t5 light above my cloning station and it works fine. Good luck.

Thanks guys. I appreciate your thoughtful responses. With all the other action in the room and being summer and all, it's been in the low 80's!!! I dug having everything in my "work shop" but I have since moved them in a much cooler spot downstairs.

Right now I'm running Girl Scout Cookies, which have been absolute champion clones until recently, NYC Diesel, and Cherrie Bomb, which have always been fussy for me.

I'm glad to know it's not just me and that sometimes clones just don't take. Thankfully the cost of taking clones is next to nothing.

I'd also like to say I wish this was how all RIU threads went: proper spelling and use of punctuation, thoughtful advice, and NO ONE IS BEING A DICK!!!

Thanks again.
