How far to have HPS light from plants in flowering stage?

I know when in veg stage we keep the metal halide light about 2 to 3 feet from them. Is it the same with the hps bulb for flowering stage? Or do I need to pull it closer? Been using cfl's for the past year, just got my set up a while back. Got them ready for flowering stage.

Between 12-18" mate, But if you have an aircooled light you probz could drop it lower. Place your hand underneath the bulb and slowly move it up til you get burnt, Somewhere before your hand gets hot is best.
