How Far Should My 150 Watt HPS be Above My Plants

So ive got 5 little ladies all in veg now for about 3 weeks. Ive got em about 2 foot away from them right now. If i want to stretch them to about 2 foot tall how far should my light be? Is it better to have the light close and get them stacked or to have them a little more stretched out? BTW i just transplanted to 2 gallon pots...

You don't want to stretch, How cool is your room? w/ proper ventilation you could put her around 6-12 inch away.

When I place my clones in the "Life Pots" I lower my light to approx 10 inches from the plants. I cool my bulb so the heat isnt an issue. The suggested for my 1,000 is like two feet. So I would say 10" away would be fine.

Yep a foot is a good place, if you want to get closer "I don't see why" you can put your hand under the light, if your hand gets hot then it's hot for the plant.

You should be able to get a 150 a good bit closer to the plants than that. With good air circulation and ventilation I keep a 150 about 4-6" above the canopy. Be careful though in that suddenly bringing the light down so close will stress them out. Try lowering it every couple days by an inch or two to see how they react, if you can only get 8-10" away before they show then you know that's your limit.

This is a 600w. I would try and get your light a bit closer.

nice! good to know... Should i still bring the light down a few inches a day or can i go for like an 8 inch move today and an 8 inch move tomorrow? BTW i just transplanted into 2 gallon pots so they are a few inches closer...

You can do it in just two steps. Or even just one as long as you don't put the light so close it scorches the plants.

If he stretches them to where he wants during veg they will double in size during flower and be all over the place with poor node spacing. Keep them as compact as possible during veg and let them naturally stretch during the first couple weeks of flower or you won't be able to maintain a decent canopy and plant size.

I agree. I've stretched plants to ridiculous heights in an attempt to let them "fill" in and it never works, in the end I get uneven light, spacing, light and loose buds, and overall just isn't good.

With a 400watt MH in veg I keep as close as possible, usually around 6" to 8". The result is compact plants that have 6 to 8 nodes at 4-5" tall. Slowly raising the light with the plant seems to really keep a nice compact and even canopy.

damn just that 150 for 5 plants your gonna need more light than that i used one of those on my first grow and it was impossible to fit more than one plant under it

My lights putting off about 16-18,000 lumen but my room is getting hot (about 90-92 in the afternoon) I want to double the lumen output but i want to avoid heat.... I was thinking adding 8-10 23 watt cfls what do you guys think?
