How far from the canopy should my blockbuster hood be?

This hood is great and you can touch it without your hand feeling hot. I have a 4x4 tent and am wondering the minimum distance I can keep this hood from the canopy (tops of my plants) while still covering the 4x4 area with even light.

Thanks

I'm throwing some general numbers out there, but as they say, your mileage may vary:

Seedlings
400 watts: 3 feet
600 watts: 4 feet
1000 watts: 5 feet (and only if you can't find something weaker)

Mature Veg & Bloom

400: about 2-4 inches
600: 6-8 inches
1000: 18 inches-2 feet

Again, that's only guesswork based off my research and experience. Your grow space could be totally different, but those numbers should be safe enough to avoid light bleaching in most growing environments.

When I used a blockbuster with 600w I found that 8" from the canopy gave me a good 3x3 footprint.

To be honest any closer than this and I got bleaching.

IMO though a blockbuster is not the best choice to cover a 4x4 area.

The way the hood is designed it spreads light almost directly downward from the reflector.

Great for penetration but not for coverage.

How many watts? How many plants and how old are they?

600w. 5 weeks into flower and currently have hood 15" above

Hey from what I've read in other threads and from what the guy at the hydro store told me the blockbuster was the hood for 4x4 and magnum xxxl was for 5x5. Heres a direct quote from greners "Square shape is perfect for square growing areas (i.e. 4'x4')" What do you think is best for 4x4?

I would have said the xxxl for a 4x4 area.

But to be honest a 600w IME is good for at max 4x4. Ideal 3.5x3.5.

What style of growing are you doing in this 4x4 area?

Tree?
SOG?
SCROG?

How many plants and how tall?

IMO 4-6 3ft tall plants is your max for 600w.

Or you could do 20-30 SOG plants.

i have to agree with Jondamon, magnum all day for 4x4 area. don't get me wrong, im pretty sure your blockbuster is okay, but definitely isn't effective as the magnum or for that type of space.

Doing SOG 30 hempies in 2liters; passive hydro setup. The plants are about 12" tall as I went straight to flower from clone. I guess I'll consider the magnum xxxl for my next run but read its too heavy for yo yo hangers...this the case?

I used 4xeasy rollers with my blockbuster.

Mounted in hooks in my ceiling with extra support joists in the ceiling for the extra weight.

4 easy rollers can hold 20kg.
