well not specific info but i have heard removing more then 1/3 of the plant can be bad.

Personally i would think damn near as much as you want.

Anybody know for sure?

The only reson I can think of for topping any father down the plant than the top is bad planning. why would you cut off plant you spend time and money growing? Unless you had let you plant get to tall?

Maybe he had to let it get tall in order for it to mature, ie, alternating branches.

Also that top need not be wasted, just cut a bunch of clones from it.

lmao, you can top every node if you want it wont hurt the plant youll just need to help it stand if you create to many branches. if your using a plant to veg then flower i would top the very top one when you have 5 true sets of leaves(about 6 weeks from germ) and then top the 2 nodes that are 2 internodes below the top at the same time. this will give you 8 tops that are all about equal height and get about equal light and become very big top colas, with the right strain they could easily be a oz a piece. all the lower branching will get minimal light because of these 8 tops but who cares you jus sell those bags of weed. now if your creating a mother donor plant then you can like i said top as many as you see fit youll just have to veg longer thats all

your not wasting shit guys you dont cut the tops and nodes when there big enuf to be donors....you cut them as soon as you see 2 nodes beneath where you want to cut. the tops will be the size of a thumb tip........when trimd off

The reason i asked is because i am on day 9 of flowering, they will be showing sex pretty soon, once i know the sex i will begin cloning, i am figuring it will take about 20 to 30 days for the clones to root and have a descent root base, (I will have about another 20 days of flowering, making the clones about 50 days old) because my tray is full with flowering plants i will have to veg these until the flowering is done. i think the plants are going to be too tall as i only have 30 inches of height. so i thought i would top them all.
I am also thinking i might just make 3 of them mothers and toss the rest then i can clone the mothers with about 20 days left in the flowering cycle. then everything should fall into place and i won't need to top any of them.

Cloning flowing plants isn't strait forward. You probably be okay right now, but personly I wouldn't wate any longer.

One of these opptions might help you.

Have you considered training? - Fewer plants with more heads.

Having two sets of flowering plants at diffent stages? - So you would have 3 sets of plants. say, 4 in Veg, 4 early flowering and 4 Nearly ready. and you just rotate.

Having a seperate mouther plant.

Also. My cuttings only take 10 days before they are ready to go.
hope that helps.

Ok so i cloned 5 plants, taking 3 clones from each, i have everything marked as far as what plants the clones came from, i currently have 11 plants in flowering and so far 4 of them look like males, but it is still a little to early to tell for sure (it looks like one the plants i cloned is male)

I am letting the males and females grow to harvest because i am trying to replenish my seeds, therefore the male clones will be tossed when a final determination is made. I am planning on having 2 mothers.

I am going to keep the mothers growing until i run out height, then i plan on topping them, letting them recover then tossing them into flowering or just whacking them and making bubble hash out of them.

I have 11 plants in the tray it is real crowded, i am planning on sticking to 8 plants (my tray is 3X3) it's almost the same thing to have 8 flowering at the same time rather then 4 in early flower and 4 in later flower, you would get a staggered harvest some now, and some later or 8 plants all done at the same time. plus i would like some down time so i can clean the hydroton rocks out and clean the res and pump.

Ye you would really need to trays to do a stagered havest. thingy.

Sounds good though. If you keep training you mouthers you can keep them going for years. well at least 2 any way.

Good luck.
