How does this experiment sound?

Earlier this year I seeded my Apollo 13 with a Flav males pollen early on so only like 20 seeds on a big plant and mostly unseeded bud. I loved the Apollo 13 and recognized its high profile from my vortex from last year.

Anyway I got ahold of more Vortex beans at tude and I want to grow Vortex and have it make my own seeds so I always have vortex in a grow once a year for as long as I can.

Now I hear its hard to find a vortex male.. So here is my plan.

Grow 3 Vortex (Apollo 13 X Spacequeen) (Spacequeen is C99 X Romulan)
Grow 3 Apollo 13 X The Flav (Flav is Spacequeen with extra Romulan)

So the genetics should be close to Vortex and i'm curious to see how with these F1's its different with that extra Romulan.

Anyway, how does this sound, if no Vortex Male pops up and a A13XFlav male does pop up, i'll use that to pollenate the Vortex.

Then down the line Grow the best smoke vortex seeds and find a male there to breed with a female Vortex from the pack.

Does that sound like a good way to ensure I always have vortex beans? Or because of my true lack of selection relying on what pops up instead of being able to find a pheno, will this give me something totally different than vortex?

I dunno it sounds solid to me but i'm book smart not experience smart in cannabis breeding (or more to the point stabalizing)

Am I setting myself up for failure or does this sound like results will be worth it for me?

Good question. I haven't grown your strains although I have been looking at the Vortex, just doesn't line up well with my gene pool at the moment. I hope that you are able to find the Vortex male then you wouldn't have to worry about it, lol. Adding the other strain is going to set you back I think, IDK for certain but you are introducing different genes being expressed even within a limited gene pool. I would think that it comes down more to having a male expressing the genes which are showing more in your female, a male more in appearance of your female. This is just a guess so please don't take this for gospel, I certainly don't want to lead you down the wrong road.
I have had mixed results so far with the crossing of these new store bought genetics. The good part so far is that even plants that turned out not like their parents have smoked good so far. Guess that is the important part, the other part is even while you are trying to do this you are going have outstanding seeds to grow out. I kind of enjoy the surprise while the new plants are growing wondering how they are going to turn out. The only bad part is waiting and waiting only to find out you didn't end up with what you were hoping for. The best part is finding that gem during your grow and knowing that you are the only one with it.
I wish you the best of luck and many beautiful phenos

genetics is very complex, it would be impossible to make sure you have vortex males without some kind of dna checking, PCR or something.
