How do you determine the PH of your soil???

I'm reading Seemorebuds book "Buds for less" and he's pretty addiment about adjusting your water to the proper PH...which I totaly understand. He even has a handy chart to get your water right by knowing what your soil PH is. I'm using MG potting mix (says on the bag: Feeds plant for up to 6 months) but it dosnt say the PH. I have a PH test kit but, it's for liquid testing.
So, how do I know the proper PH of our soil?

Any help would be appriciated.

Actually, pH is defined ONLY for aqueous solutions - I will not bore you with the chemical definition.

Dust dry soil does NOT have a pH. When you measure the pH of soil you are actually measuring the pH of the water held in that soil, so no reason why your chemical strips will not work. The simplest method might be to add a little water to your soil and test what comes out of your drainage holes.

Alternatively you can buy a pH meter for not much cash that you just poke into the soil. Good luck.

Thx for the insight guys!! Although, isnt the run-off water's PH a direct result of the water you put in?? I think it is. So, I ran a test: I gave my plant about a quart of perfect 7.0 PH water and tested the run-off, it was extreamly LOW!!! 4.0 or lower (blood red in my tester vial) So...how does the math work on this?

i think that means that you have build up in the soil. I would get oceans forest soil seriously dude. you can grow a crop with pretty much just the soil. look at my results

Not sure how i could have 'build up'?? my Widow (and her soil) are just over a week old and i havent used any nutes (other than whats in the MG soil). she's growing fast and strong but im realy concerned about the super low PH in the run-off.

I would get some better soil but my options are very limited....I'm over seas and have to get all my grow products via mail order and a lot of companies dont ship to where i am.

You should really look into reading Seemorebuds book....I'm using it as my 'bible' for this grow.

But some people never measure their pH - I am one - no idea how I consistently get over a pound dried per plant.

Yeah, yeah, I know all about nute lock out other nonsense that people who only get an ounce a plant warn me about.

not a pound per plant but over a pound a light.no bible here.. thats at barley 6 weeks of flowering.. dont you just love the new nikon cool pix camera.. i highly recomend it

The book your reading tells you exactly what to do . There is a chart showing how much to ph up you water. Read the book again.
