How do i use my PH meter?

so i have this ph meter, not digital and ive had it for like 4 months and never used it. i threw the box out already and cant remember how to use it. im a little worried about my ph, so i need to check it. its just a read out with a long metal stick. i think im supposed to mix it with soil and test it right?
