Hey,
What do i do to set up my cfl's in my grow box. How do i hook up the lights. Do i need to splice wires? I am pretty sure i need some type of socket just like a regular light, but where do i get those?

thanks:joint:

Come on you guys, this person has NO IDEA.

growjah.. what have you got? Are there no plugs on the units? If not, yes, you've got to add the sockets OR splice into an electric box. I suggest that you don't try the latter, go with the former so all you have to do is plug 'em in. Otherwise you could end up with really really curly hair and an affinity for electroshock therapy like me. :)

im so lost. Are you asking how to screw in a light bulb? I have never seen a CFL that is anything else but a screw in bulb.

Hey man. I don't have anything set up yet, but i want to grow one plant in a small box. I think i will just use a cardboard box and cut holes for the intake and exhaust. Or do you think i will be ok with just an intake hole and a fan inside.
I will get sockets and figure out a way to get them inside the box. I want to have side lighting also so do i need to somehow hook up the sockets on the sides of the inside of the box? I went to the store the other day and saw a bunch of cfls. If the box for the cfl says "equal to 100 watts" do i pay attention to that or the actual wattage of the bulb (26 etc.)
I am sorry i am just very new at this and have a ways to go.
thanks sea

A small box ? Like what size ? Get a rubbermaid box . not cardboard . You'll actually need 2 box's ... Start reading my friend ... start reading .. Pack a bowl and get lost in the pages and pages of Info.... Good luck

I will only be growing one plant so i don't need to boxes. I can grow the whole way through with one box and just add more light as i go.

I don't grow inside, and can't answer your questions regarding appropriate bulbs. I know a good bit about lighting, spectrum, wavelength, lumen output, color temperature, but my knowledge is reef-specific, not reefER-specific. :) I also know how to wire the lights up, build canopies, and so on, but again, that's for aquariums.

However, a plastic bin, Rubbermaid, will probably be best for you to start. Depending on the variety you're growing and your space limitations you may have to do a little bit more than just grow the plant. I, myself, have decided I'm going to employ Low Stress Training (a.k.a. LST) in order to vastly improve my production.
