How do I adjust the height of CFLs?

I'm planning on growing with CFLs. But I don't know how to set them up so I can adjust the heights. I know that they need to be kept within 2-4 inches of the plant. So how do I set it up so I can raise the height of the lights when needed?

Please don't say 'just hang them', because I don't know how to set up hanging lights.

Well, you can lower and raise the item you have the lights hanging on (they have all kinds of pulley systems), or...........you can raise your plants (if growing in dirt) by putting them on plant stands, boxes, totes, etc until they are the right height.

Some type of hook in the celing and rope, string, wire. Not sure why this is hard? Am i missing something?

what kind of cfl's are you using? standard home bulbs or hydroponics bulbs (42w or 300w?) and you can place them within 2cm of the bulb; it doesnt matter , it could be 3mm away but as long as it doesnt touch them and has sufficient ventilation its absolutly fine, thats the beauty of cfls PAR efficiency. post back what kinda lights your using and we can giv sum advice

Putting books under the plant is a great idea, holy shit, how didn't I think of that? I'm not handy at all, can't build shit, but that's easy.

Do you know that's the reason that I didn't grow last year, because I couldn't think of a way to adjust the lights? Thanks guys, this was probably my biggest hurdle.

put a hook in the cealing. then to ajust lights use chain. the small chain used to hang plants. paint the end chain link any color so it always stays on hook as a safty incase chain slips off hook keeping them from crashing all thw way down. with chain to raise light put more links on hook. make sure to put hook in a solidpoint in the cealing not the drywall. like a 2x4.
