How do big colas develop?

Curious if anyone has some pictures of how those big colas evolve. I'm assuming they start out as many small bud sites on the stalk and then they gradually grow in to one another to form the giant cola but I cant really find any specific info or pictures about it.
Also, how can you tell while it's growing if it's going to be a big fat cola or just a lot of smaller buds on the stalk?
Thanks

Here's a few pics spaced apart of a big cola grow with Blue Dream (front/bottom batch). Much like you described, small buds develop and on the large one's there's so many and so close together they form a big fat cola. Factors to get them: 1) Genetics, and this means even with the same strain you may need to pop many seeds or grab a clone from a known phenotype to get them. 2) Health which means a good healthy root system mainly 3) Factors like lighting, nutes and feed schedules can have further effect indoor.

So yea. Its pretty much genetics. Go for sativa/sativa dominants. Sour diesels, Thais. Where indicas are usually gunna have more large round popcorn buds. Afghanis, and most kush strains. If kush means anything anymore it pretty.much indicates rounder rather than long bud structure
