How Close should my T5 be?

I'm trying to design the section of my room for the clones, but i'm not sure how close my HO T5 should be? Just hoping someone with some experience with one can tell me what kind of heat i should expect...I don't wannt cook my starts ;)
 
Before roots? I'm at least 4-5" away. Closer after roots start. If you look at some of the domes that people use to root clones in, you'll notice that the light would have to be over 10" from the plants.

Yes, before roots. So, you're saying the heat from that fixture isn't going to wilt the starts? Also, is it completely necessary to use a hood?

My setup is going to be a home-made cloner with twelve 2 inch net pots sitting above a reservoir with sprayers. The starts will be sitting in small rockwool cubes. Do you think this will work? Refer to the crude drawing i just whipped up in Paint, haha.Untitled.jpg
 
Bump. I'm interested in what ppl have to say about the cloner design. I have never heard of anyone doing the spray system with rockwool, so i'm just wondering if it'll actually work.
 
I built my own aero cloner as well. You don't have to use rock wool if you don't want to. 2" hole in the lid + 2" net cups (reusable) + 2" neoprene collars (also reusable)
 
I grow under a ho t5 and I keep them real close they don't get hot at all
