hey iv got a small cupboard grow on atm and was wondering how clos i need my light to my plant its a 125w cfl envirolite. i want to stop the plant from stretching and keep it as small as possible. im growing arjans haze 2. how can i keep it small but still get maximum yield?

Best bet, either drop your lights or raise your plants so they are as close as possible without the top leaves showing any burning. The standard "test" for this is to put your hand as close as you can comfortably to the light to where you could leave it there. Find that range where it's about to start getting warm, and put your plants there.

I grow with CFLs also, 125watters can put off a bit of heat but still nothing compared to a HPS. I have 3x105w CFLs and my canopy sits comfortably 4-6 inches below the lights. You'll probably be good somewhere between there and 12 inches. If the top leaves start looking unhealthy or dry, add some more distance. But yeah, using your hand as a measure of heat is the easiest way, and the closer your plants can safely get to the lights the better.

CFL's should be an inch to two inches from the plant - make sure to check often and don't let the plant touch.:peace:

Arjan's Haze stretched incredibly when I flowered mine (4-5X beginning height). You might want to consider bending some of the branches to create a suitable canopy, or suspending your CFL vertically and training the branches around the light.
Higher levels of light (especially with a little bit more blue than typical HPS bulbs provide) encourage shorter internode length and denser buds, but if you don't cool well enough with the added lights you can negate the effects of the extra light by causing the plants to stretch due to heat stress.

You want the lights has close has possible without burning the plants.Once the plants have a little age to them i would not have my lights any higher than a foot. But if the plants are only young have a little higher and lover a ring a day so the plants become used of the heat. But unless you have a good exaust fan you will find this hard to do have a fan blowing on the light to cool the hade and bulb. All it takes is have it blowing up at the lights on full and get a few vents running out of the top of the g~room has heat rises.

I've got a 125 watt cfl ecolite. I started in a small cupboard but when I put that light in there I noticed it put off a lot more heat than your smaller wattage cfl's. I kept mine about 3 inches away untill they got too big then I moved it to a bigger closet... it seems to be ok from 3 - 3.5 inches but any closer and it burns the tips.
