horizontally-trained sativas

So my 250w hps died 3 weeks in. After a short panic-stricken time, I ran out and got 3/65w CFL's with Big reflector (clamp-lamps) @ local hardware store. The girls are Speed Haze (ssh x j.herer) so it's in their nature to stretch and produce fluffly buds- especially under less light. The fuckin' stretch was unreal and i finally snapped the meristems and trained them to grow horizontally. They recovered well and packed on the heat, however they missed the hps intensity and didn't produce much yield-wise. Frosty nuggets though, and some very interesting smells and tastes from these phenos. Enjoy-

DSCN0562.JPG I trained and snapped the meristems horizontally to fit my space. Otherwise, they would've been 3.5' Tall and None of the side branched would receive ambient light. Took some training but it worked-

those look nice, I bet they'd be insanely beautiful under a big 600w or 1000w, about ten yrs ago, I grew a freaky bagseed sativa that was the strethchiest thing ever, I had to coil that sucker around the other plants like a protective crown, even with 2 600w lamps that thing took 95 days, I actually finished two harvests of my J1 (miss that plant) within the time frame for that sativa to finish, but it actually was pretty dense little foxtail nugs, and VERY stoney, very creepy-high, like sparkly-room stoney, a lil overwhelming if you aren't used to it, the first time we tried it, we stupidly had to go to the store after, and it was an experience, I've never been intimidated by a supermarket before....
stupidly didn't get cuts from it

Wow man, sounds Like some fun times ;-) I too had a bagseed that was a Pure Sativa, Light green, skinny leaves, fruity smell. It took longer to finish than any other variety i have grown to date. Something like 11 weeks and could have gone longer. Smoke was a very Potent and Trippy )paranoia inducing high that took some getting used to. I have some Western Winds (sagarmatha) going with the hopes for a good, Sativa High that leaves you functional during the day.

love me some tasty sativas, I've been tempted to run some type of Neville's haze or maybe the dr grinspoon, I'd love to grow a set of regular seeds to get a good male and a female, and see what i can do to brighten up some of my old favorites, but it's such a time consuming thing, and that much of a sativa strain needs either outside light (which I can't do because I live in a forest that rains in November every year) or I have to get at least 1800w of light, right now I only have room for 2 600w, which sucks because I usually use a third 600 and I the difference is substantial, especially for sativas that really don't get dense unless you give them a lot of light, I've also noticed that sativas do much better with a metal halide bulb, at least a 2/1, I use a 1/1 ratio of hps and MH.
i'm somewhat editing this, only in saying that I PREFER the growth and nug taste/high, when using more MH light. The dual HPS's will make more weight, it's a matter of taste, but really the sativas like it, I swear by it.

DSCN0622.JPG Indica pheno - My shortest plant with almost no stretch during flowering. Sweet n Sour smell and fat, light-green nugs.

DSCN0606.JPG Random bud from my recent harvest. Looks like early-peak potency to me. Mostly clear, some cloudy, no amber trichomes.
