I havent heard of honey being used as a rooting compound before but real honey has been considered an antiseptic with properties derived from the activity of glucose oxidase from the honeybees' glands. Glucose oxidase produces gluconic acid and hydrogen peroxide(inhibine) from the glucose in honey. So as GreenSanta stated it will definitely would help out as an antiseptic/ anti bacterial. It does not however contain any hormones for growth.
I agree that Aloe works really well. Actually I just tested this out in a greenhouse as a growth and rooting hormone against indole-3-butyric acid (IBA), and naphthalene acetic acid (NAA) both rooting compounds used in propagation. And compared to the two Aloe Vera actually did very well. While certain concentrations of IBA showed more root growth Aloe vera showed also just as much as the IBA did. The aloe actually showed more then the NAA. I should also mention that IBA is naturally found in some plants to include Aloe Vera.

Good luck with the honey trial and please let us know how it goes.
