Honey oil from an early harvest

Hi I was wondering if anyone can answer a few questions for me.
I had some power skunk seeds that I got for free and grew out. I'm down to one clone that I dont really want it in my room anymore. So the question I have is would it be worth using to make honey oil at this point, only one month into flowering? The only reason I ask is that I just used mostly fan leaves the first time I made oil and got a small but potent amount. These were from a fully developed plant though. Since this plant is mostly fan leaves it seems like it could be the same thing, does anyone know if it would be the same? I'll put pics up so you can see the buds when the light comes on. Thanks for any help anyone can give me.

Pics would be nice to know how far along it is. I know you said a month but different plants mature differently. You will get oil out of this but needless to say not as much as normal. i'm also curious as to how you're doing the extraction. maybe I or someone else can help you refine it.

Dude ive put a microscope on fan leaves at 1 month and they have trichs, some are even amber. The sessile trichomes on fan leaves are almost impossible to see by the eye buy do contain cannabinoids. Also a buddy of mine has made bubble hash out of plants that where half way through flower. Smoked just like fully mature hash. Just probably not as much. Lamp.

Ok so when I went to take pics the camera was dead and I forgot about it again until the lights were off. I finally got pics of this thing. Here they are. I counted the branches, there are 20 or so. The shortest is about 8 inches long and the longest is about three feet.

It was my first time trying and I just wanted to try it out and see how difficult the process actually is. I did alot of reading and watching vids of different things people had tried. It seemed easy enough but I don't want to waste any cash right now so I bootlegged it. Basically all you need is a container that can take a bit of pressure without coming apart. I read that someone on here does is with a 2 liter soda bottle, so i figure plastic will work. And I saw how the honey bee extractor was just four whole in a screw on lid. I had a very small amount of trim that wouldnt even fit in a 20 oz. soda bottle, but I really wanted to try this. So I got an empty prescription pill bottle with a child proof lid and poked 4 wholes in it. I then sandwiched a coffee filter between the lid and carefully tisted and locked the lid. I then wrapped another fliter around the outside of the lid. I read that a few ppl do that, but i wont put any filter on the outside next time. It soaked up lot of oil and got a little wet cuz I got it to close to the water. I think I am gonna trim it to only what I need and this should stop the problem as I left the whole coffe filter intact, so it was sticking out of the lid.

I used ronson butane. I was thinking of splurging and trying to get a cleaner butane because I have read that it makes a difference, but at this point I have nothing to compare to. And I had to drive all over town just to find two cans of the cheap stuff.

I forgot about covering the intake hole, I guess that's what it would be called, so I'm sure butane leaked from there and I think thats why I ended up using both cans.
I saw this kid on youtube dripping the extract into a pyrex dish filled with water then skim it off the top of the water. This worked surpisingly well for me but i think it made it look like I had more than I really did when the water evaporated. I put it on a thin peice of metal and since it was such a small amount after 45 minutes at room temp and ocassional stirring and still in a ventilated area, I used a lighter to "cook" the reamining butane and water out. I tried to use some too early and it flamed up a bit, but I was watching for this so it didnt catch me off guard and it wasnt until I touched the drop with fire that it flamed up.

I pretty much did everything wrong and still got somethat that I was very impressed with. So for the next time I do this I was thinking of just using a two liter or getting a small pvc tube, and some kind of fine metal screen instead of that coffee filter. I used to work at starbucks and a french press, which has a metal screen, is better than a paper filter because paper traps the natural oils of the coffee. I just thought of this. I may just use the screen out of one of these. It seems like it would free up the flow of liquid coming out. If I can find a better butane, i will use it, if not I'm fine with what I used. I'll take suggestions from anyone that has experience with this and see if I can them to work out for me.

Why not do it!

My quick process:

Dry plant material
Put plant material in large glass bowl and crush
Fill with acetone just until plant material is covered
Wait one hour (roughly) while stirring a few times
Strain plant material from acetone
Let acetone evaporate
You're left with oil, smoke up!

I actually take the oil at this point, redilute it with acetone, spin it up in a centrifuge for an hour or so so that all of the undisolved solids are fully separated from the suspended cannabinoids in the acetone solution and likely get around 95% purity.

Oh, BTW, I only do this outside! Several pints of open acetone is never a good thing indoors.
I have let the plant go until now, going on week 9. I figured I'd just go ahead and let it mature and see how many decent sized nugsI can get from it and use the rest of the smaller buds and trim for the oil. Never tried with acteone. any aftertaste with that? I know some say there is a bad aftertaste with butane, but all I taste is the way the plant smells.

I've noticed no after taste or residue with acetone; it's so volatile that it all vaporizes off. I once tried 99% rubbing alcohol from a drug store but did notice a slight residue so I tossed that batch of oil out. The centrifuge does a very good job producing clean oil. I've never tried butane. The oil itself tastes quite sweet.

If you live in the US, 5 grams of oil can get you 5 years in prison. That's something to think about for those following this thread- make only tiny batches at a time!

Here's an article on what happens when you make large batches of hash oil indoors in the wrong type of container:

you will definitley get high but it wont be super potent...
So your saying that if he is able to extract say 1g of 70% THC from his crop and smokes 200mg of that, that will be less potent than a 70% THC extraction of about 2g if he smokes the same amount??

Anyway to the OP, I always turn my boys and hermies into oil and they are just the fan leaves. It works really well, just make sure the container is as air tight as you can get it, and use a good filter otherwise you'll get too much plant matter. If it's green you can still smoke it but it will taste horrible :spew:

Yea, I always make sure to DO THIS IN A WELL VENTILATED AREA!!! Thanks for adding that cuz I think may have left it out. I never thought about it but it really is essentially a pipe bomb and that seems like a whole 'nother level of "getting in trouble" something to think about I guess when looking into different extraction methods.
