Homemade 12 lamp 276 watt cfl MONSTER

Just wanted to see what people thought of my homemade cfl fixture. Alot of time went into it and kinda wanted to show it off. If anybody has some other cool ideas let me know.


23 watt bulbs.
12 lamp
276 watt total
19200 lumens

69 lumens per watt​

very cool. good job. that's one way to save money , electric is higher though. then t5 but still very cool. will work great
 
Well here is the story. I put it in my room and it is too hot. I know i can take some bulbs out or put smaller ones in it . But i think i am going to sell it on craigslist . I want to buy a hid. Like some of you suggested. Has anyone had any experience selling stuff like this on craigslist?
 
Bit rude selling something that you know doesn't work. Why don't you improve your design by not using flammable materials such as wood and incorperate a cooling fan?
 
Thanks for the replies. Trust me its not a fire hazard and the design is great just not for the space i will be using it in. I like the idea of a hid hood that can pull the heat out my room. The design that i did would not work with a flow through design. I am not selling it to rip someone off. It works great. And if someone were to buy it i would tell them every thing about it. Us fellow tokers need to stick together and help each other out.


And the peace of wood does not get hot. I can hold my finger on the base.
 
Sounds good to me bro, love the light. I'd put a 4 inch inline fan where that little fan is and run some flexible dryer duct, sucking the heat out. $25 for a 4 inch inline at Home Depot would make that a double cool CFL light.

I agree with this. You seem to be a DIYer like myself. Keep going. No reason you can't cool that.
 
Replace the wood with some aluminum tubing (Ebay), or just stainless rods, and pop some holes in the hood. If your grow area is ventilated, not sure why it would cause heat problems.
 
No offense but the reflector is not good other than having a fan to cool it. The lights are jammed together and no room for the light to escape from the back.

A flat reflector behind the lights will trap light not release it. If you do this again get a bunch of y splitters and build a a row of them inside a v or u shaped wing design that is no more than 1 inch away from the bulbs.
