ANTIOCH A 15-year-old suspect was killed and the homeowners critically injured in a shootout early Tuesday during a home-invasion robbery targeting a residential marijuana grow, police said.
The injured husband shot and killed one teenage intruder and held another 17-year-old at gunpoint until police arrived at the house in the 1300 block of Aster Drive, near the Contra Costa County Fairgrounds, police Sgt. Diane Aguinaga said.
A third suspect, believed to be wounded, remained at large Tuesday afternoon as police followed a trail of blood. Two small children at the home at the time of the robbery were uninjured.
The husband, wife and wounded suspect were flown to hospitals. The teen later died, and the husband and wife were in critical condition, police said.
Police were called at 4:37 a.m. by the husband, who said three men were breaking into his house. Investigators believe the suspects entered the house through a rear-bedroom window, where the couple confronted them. It is unclear, police said, who was armed initially, but investigators believe the wife was shot by a suspect as she ran down the hallway.
The house was in "disarray," police Capt. Allan Cantando said.
SWAT officers and search dogs conducted a yard-by-yard search for the missing third suspect, whom they say escaped out the rear window after possibly being wounded. A blood trail was seen near the window, Cantando said, but it was not clear whether.................................
