Home Brew

So I got some Fox Farm grow big and was amazed to discover that the contents are nothing special. All things that I can get myself soon, and just make bulk powder versions instead of being sold a bottle of 80% water... I can make worm castings as well, not hard, we did it in our class in 3rd grade.

So all that is left to do now is get the other 2 and see what is in them, then I can compare this Fox Farm grow to my home brew grow (next) and see if there is a difference. I also want to get a few other brands and do the same thing.

  • So far here is the list of what will go into my home made nutrients. I checked and all of them are usable by plants.

    Potassium Nitrate
    Boron Nitrite
    Calcium Phosphate
    Magnesium Powder

  • Ammonium Phosphate
    Magnesium Phosphate
    Zinc Oxide
    Iron Chelate
    and
    Copper Chelate

I also found a source for bulk chelated metal powder once I can afford it:

    Copper
    Iron
    Zinc
    Boron
    Manganese
    Magnesium

Calcium phosphate is basically a solid in water. If you're planning on making a hydroponic solution, the only way you're going to get calcium in the solution is in the form of nitrates.

calcium nitrate!

You could get sodium borate (borax) for way cheaper than boron nitrite, and it'd probably cheaper to use a magnesium salt rather than in metallic form.

Thank you for the suggestions. I am not doing hydroponic though. And I am going to try multiple kinds of each chem eventually. But again, thank you.
