Holes and Bite marks!!!

ok my plant has only been growing for 17 days and today i found these holes and bite marks.... can you tell what animal or bug caused this, and how can i stop the bugs or animals from getting to it. here are some pictures....

last year i grew 2 plants and this happened before, i was advised to "leave my scent" around the plants and i started to do this and it went away... when i started to grow this one, i did this right away, but the holes still appeared, i am convinced its a bug.... i need a home remedy to keep the bugs out, i cant buy products to do this, and i dont want to be spraying chemicals on my plant.
