HLG 550 v2 RSPEC veg height?

I have 4 HLG 550 v2 Rspecs inside a 10x10 grow tent. Two 4x8 tables inside, with two lights over each. One side of the tent is turned off, and I have about 80 clones or so on the other side with two lights on.

The veg footprint is 6x6 at 36. Since I am only needing to cover a 4x4 I felt like it was best to lower and dim. I currently have my lights at 24 inches dimmed down to 50% power. Just seeing if it would be better to crank them up to 3 feet and blast them at 100% or just keep it the way it is. I think if I went to 3 feet and 100% it would overlap the 4x8 table.

I also heard you want the temps to be a little higher during veg. Right now my tent stays around 80-82 constantly. I heard you should be shooting for around 85 with quantum boards. Any input on this? If I turn both lights up and raise them I could generate additional heat inside the tent.

Not as much as experience as most the folks here but my last ones I was vegging would get between 80-83 and they were very happy the entire time so you could try to shoot for 85 and see how they react, especially if the RH is on point. Way better than when I thought I was needing to run mid to upper 70's. These were not the Rspec's but regular 288's.

I just bought a few 320 kits in 4000k for a veg! But currently I just have two 10x10 flower tents with 4 550 rspecs a piece. I have been vegging since the start under the rspecs, but I am only doing that this first time. I plan to get a veg going as well.

80-85F is the usual recommendation, Rh around 50-60 depending on how much nutes you give.

I think you would be overlit with 4 hlg550 on full even if you raise to 3 feet.

Well one side of the tent is off. It would only be two hlg 550 on full over a 4x8. I felt like that was too much which is why they are 2 feet 50% dimmed currently.

Ok, so bit less cross-lighting. When you say you have them on half, is that half the dimmer range or is it all the way down with the screwdriver type dimmer? Do you know for sure how many watts they are running?

On top of the driver there is a black piece that you can pop out and use a little screw driver to dim it down. Pretty sure the hlg 550s are 240-480w so I assume the screw turned all the way down would be 240(which is what they are on) and all the way up would be the 480. No I do not know the exact watts they are running, just assuming based on what i stated above.

You should pick yourself up a kilowatt meter to determine the wattage your lights are pulling it will take out all of your guess work on the screw.adjustments and they are pretty.cheap like 20-25$.

So on Hlgs website it says the driver is 240-480 watts. I assumed that meant the dimmer turned all the way down was 240 watts and the dimmer turned all the way up was 480.

Well I bought a meter and each hlg 550 rspec I have turned all the way down pulls 180 watts and all the way up pulls 500 watts. So I adjusted each light from 180 watts at 2 ft to 250 watts at 2 ft

Sounds about right. On wattage: this is sorta what i expected. Meanwell datasheet says it will dial down to half. But its usually wrong. On full blast, voltage and current, it usually puts out about 10% over spec. And a bit less than 50% on lowest setting. If you want exact numbers its its be to go to meanwells website and click on Report instead of Datasheet. Its the actual measured values rather than the spec.
